Evelyn Marie Smith, 87, of Paris, IL and formerly of Decatur, IL died on Friday April 15, 2016 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN.
A graveside service to celebrate and honor her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Arcola Cemetery. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home North Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials can be made to Prairie Avenue Christian Church, Decatur, IL or First Christian Church, Paris, IL.
Evelyn was born on June 27, 1928 in Tuscola, IL the daughter of Howard George Murphy and Gertrude (Ghere) Murphey Meschkat. She graduated from High School in Champaign and later attended Richland Community College. She was a retired secretary for State Farm Insurance in Decatur, IL and also helped during tax season at H&R Block. She was a loyal member of Prairie Avenue Christian Church in Decatur where she had been a very active member. She most recently attended church at the First Christian Church in Paris, IL. She was a member of the VFW Post 3601 Auxiliary.
She was married to Leland Dean Smith on October 12, 1946 in Champaign, IL. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2005 in Decatur. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Ghere Murphey Meschkat of Arcola, IL and her father, Howard George Murphey of Champaign.
She is survived by one daughter: Candice Allen and her husband Jerry Allen, of Paris, IL; 3 grandchildren: Cassandra and Robin LaBaume of Kansas, IL; Jamie Allen of Paris and Kurtis and Kelly Allen of Tuscola; she is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Brittany Allen, Chelsea Allen-LaBaume, Matthew LaBaume, Nathan LaBaume and Mckenzie LaBaume of Kansas, IL.
