Fr. Mark Beard Obituary
Fr. Mark Bryan Beard, a loving son, brother, uncle, Pastor, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the age of 62. Father Beard was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He held a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University and a Master’s in Divinity (M.Div) from Notre Dame Seminary. He also received a certification in Spirituality (Spiritual Direction), and Divinity. Father Beard worked for a number of years in his family’s business, Beard Engineering and United Industries, a company working in the manufacturing and engineering of wastewater equipment. Here, he received a U.S. Patent for Inventor of Turbulence Control System. After a trip to Medjugorje in 2000, he began to consider priesthood as a possible vocation. After 4 years of discernment, Fr. Beard entered Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, Louisiana in 2004 and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Louisiana on May 30, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral. He was Associate Pastor at Most Sacred Heart-Gramercy, St. Joseph-Paulina, St. Michael the Archangel-Convent, and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Chapel-Lutcher for two years. He has been a pastor of St. Helena Catholic Church, in Amite, Louisiana, for the last twelve years. During that time he has built a beautiful campus where tours and retreats are offered. For the last two and a half years, he was also the administrator at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Retreat Center in Osyka, Mississippi. Fr. Beard is survived by his loving mother, Florence Mariotti Beard; brother, Gary Beard and his wife, Diane; nieces and nephews, Jason and wife Jenny, Jennifer, Nathan, Nicholas, Jacob, and Jon; great niece, Gabriella Beard; and Godmother, Nita Vicari and family. Fr. Beard is preceded in death by his father, Harold James Beard.
A public visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 8:30AM until 11:00AM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mercy with the diocesan clergy present. Priests and deacons are encouraged to wear their diocesan vestments.
Visitation for parishioners of St. Helena Church will be held at the St. Helena Parish Hall in Amite on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 8:00AM until 11:00AM with a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Helena Church for family members and St. Helena Parishioners at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Amite Memorial Gardens, Amite.

I just found Fr. Mark ~ or he found me ~ today, on TimTok of all places. His faith, words & presence are so powerful & moving. My sadness that´s he´s no longer on earth feels selfish, because I know he´s at home in heaven ~ but I really wanted to take a road trip to wherever he was just to attend Mass with him. What a powerful legacy he left. No doubt, it will continue on & he will find so many more people, just as he did me, with the exact message they will need in that exact moment they need to hear it. May eternal light shine upon him & GOD Bless his mother & family. Thank you, Fr Mark for my message today, you may have saved another soul

I started watching Fr. Mark Beard's sermons and talks online in 2023. The more I listened and read his testimony, the more I feel strengthened and consoled by our Mother Mary. On this feast day of Holy Name of Mary, I read Fr. Mark's biography and got inspired to write this memory in his obituary. I lost my mom and sister due to a car accident in 2022 and want to express our condolences to Fr. Mark's family and community too, and what a great impact, legacy that Fr. I came across Fr. Mark Beard's Homilies Oct. 2024 on Instagram. Some of them were on point; speaking to me directly. I shared his Homilies with other Parishioners. When I investigate further to find out where he is from; I found his obituary and I cried as if he was my own Parish Priest who I have known for a long time. I am praying and asking him to intercede for my daughter and all our children, who have left, to return to our Catholic faith. What a wonderful blessing he was to all who knew him.
I came across Fr Marks videos on Tik Tok, they kept popping up and I wondered who this priest was,I loved what he was saying,I started watching his homilies on You Tube and he made me realize and understand what our Catholic faith is really about! Being a cradle Catholic I should have known the faith more but sadly I didnt until Fr Mark! Thank you for bringing me so close to our Lord. I have the need,want,urge to go to mass all the time to receive the Body Blood Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ because of Fr Mark. I just came across recently Father Mark Beard´s Youtube videos and was very inspired and then I found out about his early death from an accident, felt so sad but at the same time believe he´s with God, Jesus, Mother Mary and all above. From his homilies he had a way to reach and inspire me and many others as I can see from all the messages, to look within ourselves and really see the importance of loving and following God and that will lead to a purposeful direction in our life. I have similarities to some things in his life. I was going through some things and read and watched videos of Medjugoria and went in the late 1990´s and came back from there and made some changes in my life and also went back to school later in life and come from an Italian background as well. I considered twice to become a nun. Once in my mid 30´s and got distracted and changed my focus and path and didn´t. Again, later in life I was inspired to join the convent and all rejected me because now they considered me too old, even though I´m not that old, so i considered becoming a Social Worker and hopefully on my way to it soon. He was inspiring with his life story to show his example that anything is possible through living life with not only practicing your faith but truly living and believing in it through God. God Bless you Father Mark Beard and one day may you be recognized as one of the modern saints of this time. I plan to pray for his intercession and you never know with faith, and believing what miracles can happen. God Bless his family as well!

My 20-yr-old son is in Medjugorje as I write this because Fr. Mark Beard inspired me to send him watching his video, "A Life Well Lived." I happened upon his YouTube videos firstly after searching for a good priest to listen to while cleaning one day, and within weeks, scrounged up enough money to send my eldest of 4 sons. It's only recently I have come accross fr mark on line . . He is a true trooper to the catholic faith, although he's not here in body , his legacy lives on. He is reaching and teaching every day through his recorded ministry and will continue to save souls. He is the best preacher of the word of God I have ever come accross. May he rest in peace in his heavenly home.. my deepest sympathies Mrs beard and all fr Mark's family friends.. . Also his parishioners on their great loss ..

Around six months before his passing, I was introduced to his Youtube homilies by a good Catholic friend. Oh My, My, what an Apostle of Christ he "is". (Still even more alive today). Over a year ago now, and I still offer masses for his soul. I am scared he would haunt me "Twice on Sunday"... so great is this soul. Sometimes God sends someone in your life to shake, mould and solidify faith in our Redeemer and HIS Virgin Mother. Certainly, Fr. Mark Beard did much more greatness than anyone can imagine. He is dearly missed. I am from Australia but so near in my prayers for him. May God reward him for his true and sound words. So much more one could say, I never met him in person, but still very fresh in my heart. I even tell other priests about him. How many should "follow suit" He was unique.
