After decades of bringing laughter and light to the world, Frederick Corde Meiburg, 68, died peacefully in a Lake Charles, LA hospital on August 26, 2021. Fred was born on July 19, 1953, in Charleston, South Carolina to Hampton Corde and Fredericka Visel Meiburg.
As the owner of the Christian retail business, Shining the Light, Fred shared his faith with the Lake Charles area. His patience and kindness exemplified Christ’s love outside of work; whether with meticulously constructed projects, a lending hand with moving, or the flip of his barbecue spatula, Mr. Fred made anyone around him feel welcome and like family. His dad jokes and his own giggles at them will be heart-breakingly missed, but his legacy of generosity and willingness to help those in need will live far longer than the pain that accompanies his passing. He loved his family deeply, and his grandchildren gave him constant pleasure.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife of almost 40 years, Merri Christine LaVergne Meiburg; his daughters, Jennifer Meiburg of Lake Charles, LA, Jaclyn Stephens (Ethan) of Westlake, LA, and Chrisy Chiasson (Cain) of Houston, TX; his sons, Joshua Meiburg (Amy Gomila) of Thornton, CO, and Jamie Meiburg (Amelia Abshire) of Lake Charles, LA; his grandchildren, William, Cheyenne, and Dawson Corde; his sisters, Beverly Powell of Summerville, SC, and Janice Siever (Joe) of Bradenton, FL; and his brother, Richard Meiburg (Barbara) of Charleston, SC along with nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his mother, father, Aunt Elsie Lewis and William Powell.
His funeral service will be at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Glad Tidings Church of Lake Charles where he was a long-time member. Pastor Paul Burke will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 PM until the start of the service. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

I´m so sad to see that Mr. Meiburg passed from this world. I worked for Mr. Meiburg many many moons ago, when he managed United Jewelers. He was the best boss - always fair, full of humor, and worked harder than any employee did! And, Merri, he sure did adore you! When he mentioned your name, his face would just beam with happiness! It sounds like he made a beautiful family and was loved by many. Just know that people that he probably thought had long forgotten him, still think of him fondly!

I bought a few things at his shop in the mall, and when I did not go in , he would always have a smile, and a wave for me as I passed.. We go to the same church... I did not know him well, but he was a gentle, gentleman. You will be greatly missed...

I will never forget his generosity to my family. The packs of diapers he sent home with Moe when Mr. Fred found out I was pregnant. And the Easter basket and back to school bags my daughter received from him. He always had a smile and hug for us. Heaven gained an amazing angel. He will be greatly missed.
