Gayle Joyce Doolin, 72, of Madison, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life. Born on March 24, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Charlie O. Joyce and Ora C. Joyce.
In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Gloria Faith Joyce; her paternal grandparents, Robert and Ann Joyce; and her maternal grandparents, Russell and Ethel Cruise.
Gayle was a woman of deep compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to those she loved and served. She spent more than 30 years working for the Department of Social Services, where her work was never just a job—it was a calling. Gayle made it her mission to ensure that every child and family she encountered was treated with care, dignity, and kindness.
Outside of work, Gayle found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved scrolling TikTok and Facebook, traveling—especially trips to the beach—reading, writing, and settling in to watch Yellowstone. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family, particularly her daughters and her sister Nora. One of her proudest and most cherished moments was watching her daughter complete her college degree, a moment that filled her with immense pride. In her final days, Gayle was comforted knowing how lovingly her daughter cared for her, something she spoke of with gratitude and pride.
Gayle leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her daughter, Cynthia Doolin (Sherry); her sisters, Nora Pechka (William) and Lynn Manning; her nieces, Hilary, Heather, Jennie, and India; her nephews, Lee and David; and many other family members and friends who were blessed to know her.
Gayle was deeply loved and will be remembered for her kind heart, her dedication to others, and the love she gave so freely. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 PM at the Joyce Family Cemetery on Grove Drive in Ridgeway, Virginia.

I worked with Gayle for many years. She always had something nice to say and it was always with a smile on her face. She spoke about her daughter with kindness and love quite often. She will truly be missed and my prayers go out to the family.
