Genevieve "Ginny" Louise Arrington-Halcomb, 69, of Kodiak, Alaska passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born on September 18, 1956 in Alaska when it was still an American territory, which made her older than the 49th state itself.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 29th at 2:00pm, followed by a celebration of Ginny’s life at 3:00pm at Owen's & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
Ginny lived a life marked by service to others. After graduating from Midwestern State University in 1982 with a degree in Nursing, she worked in operating rooms for 25 years in places like San Francisco, Anchorage, Dallas, and Wichita Falls. After nursing, she served her country honorably in the United States Air Force as an officer, stationed at Travis Air Force Base near San Francisco. She chose military service to honor her father, Willard Lewis Arrington, who passed away when she was nine years old. After her discharge, she continued serving through her work in civil service at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, in the jail system in downtown San Francisco, and as an operating room nurse in Eagle River, Alaska.
Ginny raised her son, Christopher Lee Ireland, as a single parent in Eagle River. Alaska remained deeply meaningful to her throughout her life, the place of both her birth and her father's death. She later returned to Texas to be near family, where she met and married Albert Fred "Larry" Halcomb Sr. Chris proudly walked his mother down the aisle. In 2005, Ginny received word that Chris had fallen from a roof in a construction accident at age 27. She flew to Alaska and made the difficult decision to donate his organs, saving multiple lives. She went on to meet and form a lasting bond with the man who received Chris's heart and his family. Not long after, she lost Larry to respiratory illness.
Ginny was the youngest of four children born to Gwendolyn Louise Arrington and Willard Lewis Arrington. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, husband, sister Gay Nell Arrington, niece Tammy Renee Stewart.
She is survived by brother Willard Lewis Arrington II, sister Geneva Wrenn Stewart, nephews Willard Lewis Arrington III and John Adam Arrington, and many great nieces and nephews.
Ginny played French horn in the Hirschi High School band and remained proud of that accomplishment throughout her life. She loved animals deeply, especially her golden retrievers. If you were her friend, you had a loyal friend for life. If she loved you, that love came without conditions. Those who knew Ginny knew someone who lived fully as herself. She was loud, spunky, and completely uninterested in pretending to be anything other than who she was. She depended on God to get her through each day and acknowledged Him as her source of strength through every trial. Ginny lived her life on her own terms while holding firmly to her faith. She is now fully restored and home with the God she loved and depended on daily.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Hospice of Wichita Falls for their compassionate care during Ginny's final days. Rebekah, Amalia, Anna, Melissa, Jacob, and Papa Tim gave Ginny not only excellent medical support but genuine kindness and dignity. Their presence brought comfort to the entire family during this time. We are forever grateful for the way they honored her life and eased her passing.
