George, thank you for your service in WWII. To all the Bandy families, my deepest condolences. George was always a calm and kind man. I always enjoyed the time spent at their home.

George William Bandy Sr., 97, and Lozelle Cynthia Edwards Bandy, 97, both of Roanoke, Va., together in marriage for 76 years, left this life in similar fashion – together – their deaths separated by a scant 12 hours.
As a member of the “greatest generation,” George enlisted in the United States Army, landed in Normandy on D-Day +2, fought his way through France, was wounded in Germany, and although offered a battlefield commission and a career in the Army, elected to return home to his wife and a son he had never seen.
In recent years, George was awarded the Legion of Honor, France’s highest honor, by the French Ambassador in Washington, D.C. He loved his visits to the D-Day Memorial in Bedford.
George worked hard and Lozelle took care that her house was spotless, and together they made a life and a home for two sons, Billy and David. As with others of their generation, they lived quiet lives, void of fanfare, yet filled with great devotion to God and their church, to their family, and to each other. They family rejoices that their life together is not ended but continues in the Presence of the One who died and rose again and in Whose amazing grace they put their trust.
George and Lozelle are survived by two sons, Billy and David; four grandchildren, Noah Bandy, Andrew Bandy, Joshua Bandy and Rachel Bandy Witt; and four great-grandchildren, Addison, Mason, Cole and Ethan. George has one surviving sister, Doris Swanson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lozelle also has one sister who survives her, Joanne Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, at Oakey’s East Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Bonsack Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bonsack Baptist Church Nursery Department. Online condolences may be expressed at www.oakeys.com.
