George "Sonny" Emro, 65, of Burkburnett, Texas, passed away on September 11, 2025. Born on September 6, 1960 to Joyce Bavousett (Gibbs) and Jack Emro, Sonny lived a life full of love, family, and a passion for cars.
He is survived by his two daughters, Wendy Emro (JJ Northrip) of Burkburnett, TX, and Sue Dula (Eric Schuster) of Blackwell, TX; five grandchildren, Haylee Long, Ethan Long, Mariah Northrip, Shelby Dula, and Bryalee Gore; as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Teeple (Bryce) of Brimley, MI, and Robin Stover (husband) of Riverside, CA; his brothers, Russell Vickery (Susan) of Big Bear, CA, Joel Emro (Tracey) of Durant, OK, and Jack Emro II (Joyce) of Burkburnett, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Johnny Bavousett; and brothers, Thomas Emro, Michael Bavousett, and Johnny Ray Bavousett.
A fleet mechanic for the City of Wichita Falls for 10 years, Sonny was also known for his love of cars. In his younger years, he spent countless hours as a shade tree mechanic, always tinkering and fixing up vehicles. Whether at work or in his spare time, his hands were always busy, and he loved sharing his passion with those around him.
Sonny was a man of simple pleasures. He was rarely seen without a Reese’s cup or a Dr. Pepper in hand—his favorite treats that brought him comfort throughout his life. He cherished time with family, and he especially enjoyed attending estate sales and car auctions, where he could indulge in his love for unique finds and automotive treasures.
Sonny’s presence in the lives of his family and friends will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Sonny’s life will be held 3 P.M., Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett, TX, with Rev. Clay Kahler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls in his name.
