Not sure what to say?

I am so sad to just now hear of Mr. St. Catherone's passing. He was a special person! I was lucky to have him as my social studies teacher
way back in the 1960's at Algoma High School. I was in class with many oif the athletes and we enjoyed his tales of growing up in Hutley when we got him off-topic! He returned to Algoma for my class's. 50th reunion and I was so happy to see him again! I have a picture with him which I will have to share if I can manage the technology!
My...

Deepest condolences to your entire family.
Thinking of you all during this time of sadness. May you find comfort in the many hugs and the many more memories.

So sad to hear of George’s passing. In all my 15+ years working at the Y there was no couple more dedicated to our success than Teri and George. Their support financially, physically and emotionally was a huge benefit to our growth. George was in the Y most days greeting new members and making them feel welcome. They attended our events, supported campaigns and George served on our board sharing his vast knowledge and experience. My sincere sympathy to Terri as I know the loss she must feel...

Our friendship with George started somewhere back in the 1990s in Alaska. Introduced by a mutual friend, It wasn’t long before we realized his love for the outdoors, friendly demeanor, and desire to become a fishing guide would be a great addition to our company High Adventure Air Charter guides and outfitters.
In a short time, he was a perfect fit with our team of guides and became a good friend with our family. Guests that he led into Alaska’s wilderness for us were always pleased with...

George was a sweet and generous man; he took me to a formal dance (though he was in a deep relationship with another woman). He was very clear about his personal relationships and was able to bring joy to everyone.

Terri my prayers go out to you and your family. George brings back many memories as my football coach, and great friend over the years. Wonderful times at Big Powder Horn ski area in the U.P. Always felt bad I was too busy to give him a Ski lesson . Going to miss him. JOHN CARLSON

my name is Jerry Becker and Mr.St.Catherine Called me up in 1972 an told me his Buddy Jerry Slivinski informed him of a Teacher in Prairie farm who jus completed his Master's in Guidance an Counselings at UW Superior and might break away from his present job to come to Webster Schools and create a new Guidance and Counseling K-12 program for that district as the State required this now and their never was a organized Guidance program here at Webster.
George told me "Becker. What...

Ohhh Terri,
I am so sorry to hear about George. Dad sure is greeting him. Heaven is never going to be the same again. That Hurley crew is up there, laughing and joking again.
All my love to you ❤

With deepest sympathy and condolences. Will always remember our fishing and ski trips in the Upper Peninsula.

George St. Catherine

April 24, 1933 ~ January 13, 2026

Age ~ 92

George St. Catherine, age 92, passed away on January 13, 2026, at his home. He was born on April 24, 1933, in Hurley,WI, where his lifelong love of sports, education, and community first took root.

George dedicated his life to students, athletes, and schools across Northern Wisconsin. He began his career as a physical education teacher and football coach, later becoming a social studies teacher and head football coach. After four years, he stepped into administration, serving first as a high school principal and then as a district administrator. George served as District Administrator in Webster, WI, for 12 years and later in Three Lakes, WI, where he proudly completed 10 years of service before retiring in 1989. Retirement meant George could follow through on another lifetime dream of exploring the great wilderness of Alaska and sharing his love for fishing and telling stories as a fishing guide. Throughout his career, he was known for his leadership, fairness, and deep care for young people.

A lifelong athlete, George played football at Hurley High School and later at the University of Wisconsin–Superior. His impact on athletics earned him induction into the UW–Superior Athletic Hall of Fame in 1973 as an “outstanding athlete, educator, and coach,” and the Hurley High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. His love of the game never faded, he officiated WIAA basketball from 1961 to 1986 and remained an enthusiastic supporter of football and basketball throughout his life.

Outside of sports, George loved the outdoors and could often be found hunting or fishing. He was also a talented woodworker who took pride in carving ducks, fish, and his well-known custom signs by hand. In recent years, George became a beloved and familiar presence at the YMCA of the Northwoods - Beck Family Center, Rhinelander. He took great pride in being one of its most dedicated supporters and was often a friendly face many encountered there. George especially loved selling tickets for the YMCA’s annual Denim and Diamonds fundraiser, a role he embraced with enthusiasm. He was also known for greeting children in the hallways with his trademark smile and saying, “A fist pump for George!” — a small gesture that perfectly captured his warmth and joy. George was very proud to have been recognized multiple times with awards from the YMCA community.

George was preceded in death by his parents Angelo and Anna, sister Norma, brother Jacko, and his son, Kash St. Catherine.

He is survived by his loving wife, Terri St. Catherine; his daughter, Luanne Applekamp (David); step-children Val Dreger (Louie), Randy Ingram (Amy), and Dave Ingram; grandchildren Amanda, Andrew, Angela, Devin, Lukas, Jesse, Brandi, Josh, Brandon, Emily, Eric, Claire, and Chloe; and many great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his legacy of kindness, dedication, encouragement, and the sounds of the harmonica, with a little jig.

The visitation for George will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church, located at 6895 Highway 17, Sugar Camp, from 9:30 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass. Fr. Raja Birusu and Dn. Al Goodrich will officiate.

Inurnment will be held this summer at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Hurley, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a donation to the YMCA of the Northwoods - Beck Family Center, Rhinelander or your attendance at the next annual Denim and Diamonds.
