Gerald Faneuf Obituary

Gerald Arthur Faneuf, ‘Gerry’,  93, passed away peacefully on July 12th, 2024, following an extended illness. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Gerald Arthur Faneuf was born on July 24,1930, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Arthur Anthony and Alto Mogé Faneuf. His family moved to Providence, Rhode Island, where he attended Our Lady of Lourdes and then Classical High School, graduating in 1948. Gerry was an exceptional student, winning multiple state and regional science competitions during his time at Classical. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and went on to graduate from the University of Rhode Island in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Gerry worked in management and research roles for Bell Telephone for thirty years and then for Northern Telecom for twelve years, living throughout the New England and New York region.  His work involved complex projects where he excelled in developing innovative solutions.

Gerry’s first position was in Boston, Massachusetts. It was there where he met his future wife, Aileen Patricia Malone.  After living in Maine, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, Gerry and Aileen settled in Sudbury, Massachusetts, to raise their three daughters – Patricia, Nancy, and Michelle.  He was a devoted and fun-filled Dad who happily provided his family with homes and lives full of animals, learning, and adventures.

Over the years, Gerry undertook many professional and personal projects, big and small. With Aileen at his side, Gerry built a family cabin on Bow Lake in Northwood, New Hampshire, which became the center of family life, fun, and car storage. Water skiing with all three girls up at once became a summertime tradition.  Summers in N.H. were a place where family, friends, and lots of kids came together to enjoy life, the lake, and each other.  Gerry became Dad, Grampy, and the guy everyone could count on to bring the fun and maintain the ‘toys’ in running order.  He had a passion for automobiles, particularly Packards. He went on to become a Packard car collector, as well as, an expert Packard mechanic. He was an active member of the Packard Classics Automobile Club of the Northeast, and served as Chair of the North American Packard Classics Club Meeting in New England, which attracted Packard owners from around the world.

Gerry was re-married in 1999 to Margaret Mary Mark, ‘Maggie.’ They built a house and happy life together in Epsom, New Hampshire. They enjoyed the wildlife in their yard, and adopted and loved their labrador retrievers. They made many friends and were involved in their church and community while enjoying family and travel. They enjoyed daily cribbage battles and crossword puzzles. Their games, as in their lives, never let an opportunity for a joke or laugh pass by.

Gerry’s Catholic faith was an important foundation in his life. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima in Sudbury, St. Joseph’s of Northwood, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Concord.  He found peace, growth, and joy in the many teachings and activities of the church.

Gerry was a caring man who was always willing to listen and share stories.  He had a quick wit and a combination of a mischievous and curious nature that kept you on your toes.  He had a deep love for his family, friends, and faith. Gerry never met a dessert he did not like and sharing was not an option.  He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him, but he left us all better off because of the precious time he shared with us.

Gerald is survived by his loving sister Constance Simone of Stow, Massachusetts;  his first wife Aileen Malone;  daughter Patricia Jones and husband Patrick of Tucson, Arizona;  daughter Nancy Ouhib and husband Zoubir of Parkland, Florida;  his grandchildren - Nadia and husband Tim Cole;  Madjid Ouhib;  and Corin Vallee and husband Chris Bowen;  and great grandson Kadin.  His life included many special years with his nieces and nephews Mia, Christopher, Susan, Carl, and Monique.  Gerald was predeceased by his daughter Michelle Vallee in 2021.

I knew Gerry through his volunteering at the Talking Book Library with the Telephone Pioneers. He was always a great guy with a big smile! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
