Gerald Lee ”Jerry” Kacynski, aged 74, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2023. He was with his beloved wife, Mary, and they were driving to the woods to do their favorite thing - deer hunting.
Jerry had a great opening day shooting a beautiful 8-point buck. He passed quickly, on his way to do what he loved.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed any kind of hunting and fishing. He traveled extensively hunting elk, moose, caribou, wild boar, bear, and others; many times accompanied by Mary during their 48 years together. He spent his working life at the Village of Pentwater, keeping the village clean and making sure the sewer and water systems were in tip top shape. As they say, a crappy job, but someone had to do it, and Jerry did it well. It kept him in proximity to his beloved father, Vince, the family farm, and the family’s beautiful wooded property. After retirement, Jerry became a gentleman farmer, allowing him to do another thing he loved - drive tractors. He inherited the farm after his father passed in 2017 and his farming slowed then, too, so he and Mary could travel more.
Jerry is survived by: his wife, Mary; his son, Walter Gerald (Melanie); his grandchildren, Owen Michael and Allison Marie; brother, Thomas Allen (Angela); and sisters, Kathryn Ann (Mary), Kristine Marie, and Karen Jean.
Jerry was preceded in death by: his mother, Betty (2004); father, Vincent (2017); mother-in-law, Lucy GeBott (2005); and father-in-law, Hiram GeBott (1982).
Jerry was known to be a gruff character, but was well-loved by those who knew his deeply caring heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Crystal Valley Care Fund, PO Box 451, Hart, MI 49420, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2380 West Jackson Road, Hart, MI 49420, with Fr. Philip Sliwinski presiding, and a luncheon to follow. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church.

Jerry will always be unforgettable. He filled a room with his presence and his voice. You could not help but be impressed by how genuine he was in everything he said and did. I will never forget how he beamed with pride when telling stories about Mary; he wore his love for her on his sleeve and made sure you knew it! I am so grateful that I got to meet Jerry and spend a week with him hunting moose in Newfoundland. Rest easy Jerry - you lived a great life and set an example that I truly aspire to match.

Jerry was my cousin. My dad Al Kacy would take his boys Ken, Dennis, and Donald to visit his parent on the farm, where,as children we would go adventuring on the farm.
We rekindle our adult relationship with Jerry at Aunt Phylis' 80th birthday party. Upon inquiry, Jerry referred my wife, Marilyn, and I to a realtor in Pentwater, We purchased a to-be-built condo behind the dele overlooking the boat marina for a vacation home.
Almost immediately we discovered Cousin Jerry was the town gadfly holding court with the locals at the deli over morning coffee, or at the Gull Lake Inn. Jerry had an opinion on everything and always brought a stimulating agenda to the table. He had many friends who engaged in spirited discourse and all had a great time bantering with each other.
Jerry was always positive and greatly loved Mary and admired his son Walt.
His second love was anything outdoors, hunting., fishing or tractoring with Mary. He loved his job because it was outdoors. Pentwater will miss the person of Jerry Kacynski .
