Not sure what to say?

We extend our deepest sympathies at this time and thank you for entrusting us with the care of your loved one.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Gerry and I met almost 41 years ago when we moved in across the street in June 1983. She immediately embraced us into her family and we have been good friends every since. She was always there for me and never said no when I asked for a favor. I hope I was as good a friend to her as she was to me. She always treated my children as family and "her munch" and "her dude" will always love her. We will all miss her terribly but we are comforted to know that she is no longer in pain and with her...

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. To Joanne and family so sorry for your loss my prayers are with you. Remember God is always with you.

To Gerri’s family, my name is Joyce and I am Rosemarie Foxs sister. Gerri was such a wonderful woman. My family made sure that when we visited Ro we would spend time with Gerri. She was a loving woman whom we had the great pleasure of getting to know over the years. Our family sends our deepest sympathy
With our thoughts and prayers

Mike & Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you all, during this difficult time. Gerry could be sassy, funny and caring all at the same time. I enjoyed getting to know her, talking to her about life and family. She will be truly missed. Sending you all my thoughts, prayers and love.

Mike & Joanne:
Our deepest sympathies at this difficult time. I will always remember Gerry’s smile and hello as we saw each other practically every day living next door to each other. Her laughter and love for life was infectious.
May your heart be filled with everlasting beautiful memories and moments throughout her life.

Obituary

Geraldine's Obituary

Rocky Hill – Geraldine “Gerry” Ann (DeFelice) Iskra, 81, passed away on February 2, 2025.  She was the loving wife of the late Joseph A. Iskra.  She was the daughter of the late Viola (St. Onge) and Ralph DeFelice.

Gerry dedicated her life to caring for people.  She grew up in the South End of Hartford where she attended Buckley High School and met many life-long friends.  She worked for Aetna Life and Casualty where she met Joe, by running into him with the mail cart she was driving (as she often liked to share).  After marrying Joe in 1963, she set about starting and caring for her family.  She was actively involved in her children's school life and continued making friends wherever she went.  She cared for her mother, Viola and her husband, Joe for all of their lives.  It was a rare moment that she wasn't taking care of someone.  She shared a very special bond with her sister Marian, with whom she would speak every day.  As her grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived, she relished spending time with them and hearing about their adventures.

Gerry was a woman of great faith and was actively involved in the parish of St. Josephine Bakhita.  She could often be found counting the donations and greeting people as they walked through the door.  She also enjoyed spending her time watching the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox with her son Mike.

Gerry is survived by her two cherished children, Michael J. Iskra (Dianna Canavan) of Rocky Hill, CT and Joanne M. Macek (Adam) of Pittsford, NY; grandchildren, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Matthew R. Iskra (Jaclyn) of CT and Nathan and Jeremy Macek, both of NY; great-grandchildren Wesley and Jonas Iskra of CT; a nephew John Lazzeri of CT and niece Denise Landon (Howard) of VA; many cousins, neighbors and friends who were considered family, especially Blaise Riccio (Kim Sabottke) whom she considered one of her children.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Marian and Louis Lazzeri and lifelong friend Barbara Riccio-Woods.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mapleview Health and Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care and support they have provided through the years.  Their kindness to Gerry will never be forgotten.  The family would also like to thank her roommate and friend, Carmel for the companionship and caring she provided for Gerry.

Friends may call on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill, CT from 9:30 – 10:30a.m. to celebrate Gerry’s life with love and laughter.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, St. James Campus, 767 Elm St. Rocky Hill  at 11:00a.m.  Burial will be private at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor's Gerry's generosity of spirit by taking the time to perform a random act of kindness.
