Giovanni Faia Obituary
Giovanni "Nino" Faia, 60, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 in Philadelphia, PA.
Giovanni was born in Cassano Irpino, Avellino, Italia to Giuseppe Faia and Giovannina Lauria on October 19, 1955.
Growing up with humble means in rural southern Italy, Giovanni was resourceful, creative, and technically inclined. In Italy, he worked as an Electrician. After spending a short time in Switzerland, Giovanni came to the USA in 1976 at the age of 20, living in NE Philadelphia and also in Long Island, NY. By 1980, Giovanni had moved into the Auto Body Repair and Sales trade, with some time in business partnership as International Auto Body in Philadelphia until 1985, and then as Giovanni Auto from 1985 until 2016 in Philadelphia and recently in Bucks County. He was also a successful real estate agent even though he did it part time and did not go to school in America.
Giovanni married Margarida Abreu in September 1994. While raising a family and running the auto business, Giovanni also had a passion for gardening and growing vegetables. 'Zio Nino' especially enjoyed roasting and eating CHESTNUTS ('castagne')!
Giovanni was raised in the Pentecostal Christian Faith from his youth and often spoke of his father Giuseppe's memory and his family legacy and faith. He loved supporting Christian ministries and shared his faith on social media and while working in his vocation.
Giovanni had a reputation for helping hundreds and hundreds of people over the years with car troubles, repairs and emergencies and known for giving the 'shirt off his back.' He loved his family and worked hard to provide.
Giovanni is preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Giovannina; and two brothers Giuseppe (Antonio) and Ciro.
Giovanni is survived by his wife Margarida, children Marisa, Gianpaolo, Daniel and Christopher; his brothers Nunzio of Southampton, Pennsylvania and Salvatore of Mastic, New York and one sister Assunta of Paternopoli, Avellino, Italia; his in-laws, nephews and nieces, and many other relatives.
