Gladys Inez Cooper Jones (Granny), 103, of Camden, AR, made her peaceful transition on February 12, 2026. She was born in Herbine, AR on December 27, 1922, to Charles (Paw) and Ola Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sherman Jones, two brothers, JW Cooper and Charles (Junior) Cooper, sister, Faye Parnell, daughter, Imogene Jones Duncan, grandson, Sherman Howland, great-great grandson, Seth Stewart, great-great granddaughter, Madison Stewart.
She is survived by her daughter, Fern Jones Slocum (David) who was her devoted caregiver of Camden, AR; son-in-law, Jimmy Duncan of Longview, TX; five grandsons, Ronnie Duncan (Barbara Ann), Timmy Duncan (Selee) of Longview, TX, Tommy Duncan ( Jackie) of Houston, TX, Laurence Howland (Lisa) of Chidester, AR, David Slocum (Fran) of Royale, AR; two granddaughters, Gena Medford (Rob) of Grand Prairie, TX and Nanette Porter (Mike) of Camden, AR; 15 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild and one on the way.
Mamaw was a nurse and she retired from the Arkansas Health Department where she made many longtime friends with her co-workers. She loved her time there; she was a people person and never met a stranger. When her health limited her mobility, her phone became her best friend, she would call her cousin in Texas and let it ring one time then hang up, he knew that was his signal to call her back, mom tried several times to explain to her that you don’t have to do that anymore that she has a set rate and she could call wherever she wanted to and talk as long as she wanted to she wouldn’t be charged extra, mom finally gave up, as much as she enjoyed that phone when she had said all she wanted to say or had asked (ALL) the questions she wanted answers to she would say “ok by” then all you heard was a click in her end of the phone line. When her health was good, she loved to travel. She and Mamie, one of her dearest friends, took tour bus trips with their church family, but she loved most of all going on vacation with her 2 daughters and a niece. Mom and Mamaw had a standing date every Saturday, beauty shop, shopping then going out to eat.
She spent many hours working in the yard, she loved tending to her flowers; she tried her best to get mom and I to like it as much as she did, but after many attempts she finally gave up on us…she said it was her therapy,” but she hated a blasted leaf”. She loved to sew, during the winter months when she couldn’t work in the yard, you would find her working on her puzzles, even after her move to Ouachita Nursing and Rehab she still worked her puzzles up until a month ago. Mamaw/Mom will be dearly missed by us all: she left us with 103 years of memories and stories of her life, she loved her family, always setting a good example for us to follow, she was all about integrity and honesty “sometimes to honest” wanting everything done a certain way. Which was way. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for her nurses, Michael the (NP) her aids and the hospice nurses who took such excellent care of her during her time at Ouachita Nursing and Rehab we couldn’t have asked for any better, Dr. Mosley for all his years of patience and kindness he showed her.
Visitation is from 1-2PM before the funeral service at 2:00PM Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Warren, AR.
