Harold L. Gustafson, 84, of Paynesville, died Friday, August 3, 2018, at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 pm Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold Lyle Gustafson was born on March 6, 1934, on the family farm near Cannon Falls, Minnesota, the son of Harold A. and Muriel E. (Freeberg) Gustafson. The family moved to Minneapolis where he grew up and graduated from Roosevelt High School. After high school he began working for the State of Minnesota. In 1956, Harold entered the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1958, he returned to Minnesota where he resumed his job with the State.
On November 24, 1955, Harold was united in marriage to Beverly Herzan at St. Columbus Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. This union was blessed with two daughters and a son. The family started their home in Hanover, MN and continued to live in the Twin Cities Metro. After working for the State, Harold became a right-of-way agent for Hennepin County. He continued his career there for 35 years until his retirement in 1989. In 1995 Harold and Bev moved to Paynesville, where they resided at the time of his death.
Harold was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville where he was active as an usher. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, and was a car enthusiast. Harold and Bev also enjoyed wintering at their home in Mission, TX. Harold was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he loved spending time with his family and friends especially taking them for boat rides around the lake.
Harold L. Gustafson died on Friday August 3, 2018, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly; children: Leah Mins of Dayton, Lori (Tina) Gustafson of Brooklyn Park, and Guy (Stephanie) of Huntington, TX; five grandchildren: John Pierce Mins, Lori Rose Mins, Devin (Hannah) Gustafson, Sydney Gustafson, and Logan Gustafson; sister, Elsie Hall of Vermillion, SD; brother-in-law, Robert (Peggy) Herzan of St. Paul, and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Huspek; and his brother-in-law, Clayton Hall.
