Harold started working at the age of 14, driving a team of horses hauling stooks to the thrashing machine.  At 16, he drove a horse and wagon, hauling bread to the stores in Flin Flon, MB.  In 1949, at 24 years old, he started working for Fire Patrol in various areas, such as Swan Cabin, Malonek Cabin, Murphy Cabin, Mountain Cabin and Jackfish Creek.  He also did the work of a conservation officer in these areas.  He started marking timber and visited Fred Dolton’s lumber mill, where he met Marguerite Dolton in 1954, who was cooking for her dad’s mill.  Marguerite said she fell in love with Harold's dog first, then Harold came next. They were married June 1, 1956, near Endeavour, SK.  After they were married, they lived at the Woody Lake Tower, where Harold was working on fire watch, then by Reserve, where he cruised timber again. They had their first child, Kim in 1957.  After he was born, they moved to Prairie River, where Harold worked for the Timber Board.  Harold then bought a 3-tonne truck to haul timber for Dolton's Mill.  Their second child, Cindy, was born in 1959, and completed the family. They all lived at the lumber camp at McBride Lake until Kim had to attend school.  They then moved to Norquay, where Harold ran the bulk Esso for 11 years.  The family relocated to Rockford for 5 years while Harold tried his hand at farming and ranching.  They then moved to the acreage near Endeavour and Harold worked cutting pulp for various logging companies.  He then went on to work for the Department of Natural Resources in Porcupine Forest.  He worked various different positions in the Porcupine Forest until his retirement in 1991.He acquired a trapping lease and spent as much time as possible at their cabin at Woody Lake.  He had many trapping and fishing stories over the years. When Harold and Marg's health declined, they moved back to Norquay in 2024, then to Norquay Health Center in June of this year.  Harold enjoyed many hobbies over the years, most including being outdoors.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, being with his animals, playing crib, and reading.   At 97 years old, he got a banjo and was teaching himself how to play it.
