Harry Kelleman Obituary

Harry Peter Kelleman was born on August 22, 1957 in Perth Amboy, NJ. He grew up on Oak Avenue in Woodbridge, N.J., where he lived with his father, brother, and grandparents. He graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1975.

In the 1990s, Harry worked and lived in Freehold, N.J., where he met his future wife, Laura. Shortly after meeting, they moved to Matawan, N.J., where they would settle down and start a family.  In 1994, their son Matthew was born.  Harry and Laura lived in Matawan for 30 years, and in 2021 moved to Wilmington, N.C. Harry quickly took to all that Wilmington has to offer, and was known and loved by his new friends. He never missed going on his weekly dates downtown with Laura.

Harry had many diverse interests throughout his life. He was an avid cyclist who also enjoyed playing softball, throwing horseshoes and lifting weights in his younger years. He loved grilling and cooking for guests. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of music, and was well known for his signature Grateful Dead tie dye shirts. Harry was a diehard sports fan. He never missed an opportunity to talk about or watch the Cowboys and Mets with his son Matthew. As an animal lover, Harry and his dog Nala were attached at the hip from the day he got her.

When Harry and Laura lived in New Jersey, they enjoyed regular trips to New Hope, N.J., which was Harry’s favorite place to visit because it was laid back and unpretentious, just like he was.

Harry was a humble yet remarkable man who lived life on his terms. He will forever be remembered as a kind and caring friend, a loving husband to Laura and, most of all, a phenomenal father to Matthew.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Casual and colorful attire is requested as Harry would have wanted it.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Harry's name be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or ASPCA.

We were neighbors in Matawan for all of those 30 years. Neighbors who became good friends. Shared many laughs and much less sadness. We loved you Harry, but you that from our frequent texts when you moved. We will miss you brother. We’ll see you again. Save us a cold one until then. Godspeed.

This is so heart breaking, I started thinking about Harry again these past few days, so I tried to look him up again ..and I find this.

Harry and I are cousins, and we grew up next door to each other on Oak Ave ..through the 60's 70's and early 80's ..we shared family, friends and food.

His values and loyalty developed at a young age, and my brothers and I always looked up to him and appreciated his support and advice, everyone respected him.

But when I married in the early 80's and left NJ, I'd lost touch with old friends ..and even family. Whenever a memory from our old days would pop-up, I'd laugh and tell myself one-day I have to look him up again so we can hang-out and catch-up ..now this.

Laura, Matt ..I'm so sorry for your loss.

To Laura, Matt & family I am so sorry for your loss ❤

Harry,
You were a best friend to my dad. You guys grew up on Oak. You did crazy things together, you had families, you worked together at Cooper and you made so many memories with one another. Growing up you, Laura and Matt were such a big part of my life. From the summers when Matt would stay at our house and Christmas Eve visits to Keansburg and even California. You were there for us when we were losing my dad and I am forever grateful for that. You were such an important person to Lucas when you were here for us, he saw you as someone he could lean on when he lost his pop and I thank you for that. I just know that you and Manks are together up there, catching up on these past few years. I love you ❤

Harry and I were the original "outsiders!" The guys who married the sisters with 3 brothers. Although we were technically brothers "in-law," Harry was and is my brother. We both loved hanging out and talking sports, politics, family, etc.. over a beer. As fellow Cowboys fans, we suffered together through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows that sports fans experience. Harry could be right to the point -- uncomfortably so at times -- when the situation warranted it. He could also be the biggest softie out there -- which is something his family and close friends knew well. He had a huge heart and a way to connect with others that was very "real." I'll miss him a lot, taking solace only in the fact that Harry was at peace with his circumstances. RIP, brother.

Sending my condolences to the family. Harry was a great person. I worked with him for many years at cooper. After he left Cooper he would visit before Moving and I told him, yeah it’s time; I’m going south Too and that’s what I did as well. After reading. I am glad he enjoyed Wilmington and many others got to met a good person as well. May he rest in heaven. Harry was truly a great person.

Sincerely. Kenyatta
