Harry was born in East Oakland Hospital, Oakland, to parents, Harry A. Rasmussen, Sr. and Lillian C. Rasmussen. He grew up in Oakland, Graduated from Fremont H.S. in 1952 was inducted into the U.S. Army & honorably discharged in 1955.
Harry spent his employment years in the retail grocery business starting while in high school in the 4/4 plan with the Louis Stores grocery chain and retiring in 1993 from Fleming Foods. He enjoyed his occupation. He had many interest i.e., fishing, golf, a sports fan favoring all Stanford events. He loved RVing w/family and was an avid reader of the American Civil War. Most especially was his involvement in Boy Scouts of America starting w/Cub Scouts w/sons then continued on to Boy Scouts. He was a leader in the first co-ed Explorer Back Packing Troop and currently assisted in his Troop 612 and Commissioner of others. Harry was awarded the Silver Beaver Award in 2015, the highest award for Volunteer Leadership.
A beloved husband of 63 years is survived by his wife; Diane, sons; Harry A. Rasmussen III (Mary Ann), and Mark A. Rasmussen (Christy), daughter; Sheryl A. Martin (John Martin Sr.), grandchildren; John Martin Jr. USN (Jessica), Monica Wimsett (Brian), Tracy Martin USN (Pauline), 8 great-grandchildren, sister; Beverly A. Rasmussen Morgan of Hayward, brother-in-law; Edward C. Morgan of San Francisco and nieces and nephews. Harry’s life will be celebrated at St. John’s Catholic Church, San Lorenzo at a later date. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John’s.
