Harvey Preston Stapleton, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 5:00PM on Friday, July 22, 2016, at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 (www.stjude.org) or National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), P.O. Box 62596, Baltimore, Maryland 21264 (www.nami.org).

Mr. Stapleton was a U.S. Air Force veteran, attended the University of Georgia, and worked with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office until being appointed as one of the first Bibb County Superior Court Probation officers in Macon, from where he retired. Mr. Stapleton was the founder and first President of Western Little League, and he and his father owned and operated Circle H Ranch many years ago.
Survivors include his children: Harvey P. "Chip" Stapleton, III (Mary) of Moultrie, Barry West Stapleton (Amy) of Forsyth, LeAnn Marie Stapleton Roland (J.C.) of Macon; six grandchildren: Leah and Lindsey Stapleton, Cassidy Roland Turner (Josh), Barry "Bart" West Stapleton, Jr., Andrew Stapleton, and Wesley Stapleton.

Mr. Stapleton was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce Millirons, parents, Harvey Preston Stapleton, Sr. and Cora Archer Stapleton, and two sisters, Margie Smith and Helen James.

So sorry to hear about Mr Stapleton. I handled his insurance at BB&T for years and he was such a sweet man. He showed me his Marilyn Monroe Collection once. Ronnie knew him from the sheriff's office. I never had the privilege of knowing Mr. Stapleton. I think a true testament of who he was can be seen in the integrity and character of his children. I have never met Chip, but Barry and LeAnn are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. I am sure Chip is just like them. I think it would take a special father to raise children like these especially in the absence of their mother. Now I pray that this family will receive the peace that passeth all understanding that only Jesus can give. Love and peace is my wish for all of you.
