Helen R. Campbell, 96, formerly of Oakdale, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2nd at her daughter’s home in Apex, NC.
She was born on February 27, 1929, in Baltimore, MD, the eldest daughter of John and Anna (Leister) Ballman.
In her early life, Helen met William Campbell who was in the Navy at the time. Helen and William married when she was 19. Helen stayed home and raised their two daughters Susan and Cheryl. When the girls grew up and left home Helen went to college and earned an associate degree in accounting. She worked for several businesses in the New London area and volunteered for over 20 years at L&M Hospital.
Up until her health gave her some challenges Helen lived a very full, busy life. In 2004, a few years after her husband William passed, she left the area and moved to New York with her daughter Cheryl and her family. She spent 18 years in New York before relocating to North Carolina. She enjoyed traveling and was quite the crafter. She had a gift for quilting, knitting, and sewing. She also had a passion for reading and collecting post cards.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Eldredge (Errol), of West Chester, PA, and Cheryl Roth (Rich), of Apex, NC; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and her youngest sister Anna Pollard of North Carolina.
Besides her husband William, she was predeceased by her five siblings.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 13th at 11am at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Broad Street, New London. There are no calling hours.
