Helen Carol Clifford, 94, of Newington, CT, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026. Born on February 29, 1932, in Queens, NY, Carol, as she was better known, was the beloved daughter of the late Edward L. Clifford and Helen S. Clifford, of Scarsdale, NY.
Carol spent the majority of her life in Scarsdale, NY. She had gone on to secretarial school and had worked for both Nestle Company and Newsweek Magazine. At Newsweek, she was an Executive Assistant, right up until her retirement. The decades that followed were spent enjoying her apartment, that she cherished so much, at The Buckingham, in Scarsdale, NY. Here, she also sat on the Board, where she gave generously of her time and her resources. She was a frequent customer of all the local small businesses, where everyone knew her name. Alfonso, her dearest of friends, and her many neighbors, were the highlight of her conversations. This was truly her “happy place”. Carol also loved the summer beach vacations that she took with her family throughout the years, at both Old Lyme Shoes and Hawks Nest Beach, in CT. The sun, sand and water always put a smile on her face. So did her many animal friends that she loved throughout her days, the sport of tennis, walking, and shopping, which she was very good at!
Carol was predeceased by her two brothers, William E. Clifford of West Hartford and Eugene P. Clifford of Rocky Hill as well as her nephew, William E. Clifford II, of Farmington. She leaves behind a family that will miss her and her apt to say whatever was on her mind : her two sister in laws - Nancy G. Clifford of West Hartford and Janice Clifford of Rocky Hill; her nieces - Beth Beisel of Farmington, Jennifer Hussey of Rocky Hill and Susan LeVay of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; her nephew - Peter Clifford, of Fairfield, and all of their respective families.
In 2024, Carol moved to CT to be closer to family. She resided at Cedar Mountain Commons and The Jefferson House, both in Newington. The family would like to thank all who cared for her and were kind to her, during this time. May Carol find the peace that she was looking for and the joy of being reunited with her family, who she missed so very deeply.
