Heleria (Prokop) Buchinski of Preeceville, SK and formerly of Buchanan, SK, passed away peacefully at the Preeceville and District Nursing Home on November 23, 2022, at the age of 87 years. Heleria was born on July 22, 1935, in the Olesha district to Wasyl and Annie (Malowany) Prokop. Heleria grew up on the family farm and walked the one mile to the Olesha School with her siblings. Heleria left the farm to seek her fortune in Edmonton where she gained employment at a bakery. On November 14, 1954, Heleria married Frank Buchinski. The couple made their home in Buchanan, SK, where Frank operated a machine shop. As their family grew, Heleria gained employment at the Buchanan School as a caretaker for several years. In 1988, Frank’s health declined and Heleria became his primary caregiver. During respite breaks, Heleria delighted in mini vacations travelling with her sisters to visit family and friends across Western Canada. The highlight vacation was a Caribbean cruise with her sisters and brother in 2012. An avid gardener, Heleria’s leisure activities also included patchwork quilting, crocheting and embroidery, camping and cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Heleria enjoyed listening to music and enjoyed a twirl on the dance floor. She was an active member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic church and CWL at Buchanan.Health concerns forced Heleria to leave her beloved community and move to the Yorkton Crossing. For the past twenty months, Heleria resided at the Preeceville and District Health Centre. Heleria will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Annie; spouse, Frank; sons, Michael and Gerald; brothers, Joey, Steve and Gene; and sisters, Pauline, Mary and Natalie. Heleria is survived by her sons: Gordon, Brian (Leanne), and Kelly (Donalda); daughter-in-law, Sonia; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sisters, Leona and Sister Laura, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to recognize the efforts of the health teams at the Yorkton Crossing and the PDNH for their care and compassion. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 28, 2022, from St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Buchanan, SK, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, OMI, as celebrant. Rite of Committal followed at St. Anne’s RC Parish Cemetery, Buchanan, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Heleria Buchinski.
