It is with heavy hearts that we share the death of Henry C. Muller IV, who was born on March 5, 1953, and passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2026.
Henry was the son of the late Henry C. Muller III and Barbara M. Muller. He graduated from East Hampton High School in 1971 and went on to attend the Auxiliary Police Academy in 1973, followed by earning his Associate’s Degree from Manchester Community College in 1975.
Henry dedicated much of his life to public service. He served as an officer at Whiting Forensic Hospital, retiring after 20 years as a Sergeant. After retirement, he continued working at CVH and Cedarcrest for over a decade. Even when his time with law enforcement had ended, Henry worked security at Russell Library. Throughout his career, Henry cultivated lifelong friendships, keeping in close touch with his pals until the end.
Outside of work, Henry lived his life to the fullest. Traveling was one of his greatest joys, especially trips to the Dominican Republic and Colombia with his buddies. An Eagle Scout himself, Henry stayed deeply committed to Scouting and served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 44 of Haddam for nearly 20 years. Teaching, mentoring, and supporting the next generation was something he took great pride in.
Henry also loved to tinker, thrift, and stay busy. There was always a project in progress, something being fixed, repurposed, or improved. He had a knack for finding value where others didn’t and enjoyed the process as much as the result.
Henry is survived by his sister, Janet Muller Benway, and his four children: Jamie-Lynn (Marcus) Nanfito, Daniel Muller, Darcy (Phil) Parmelee, and Stacy (Michael Melillo) Muller, as well as the mother of his children, Terry-Lynn (Royce) Muller. He was a proud grandfather to his “two troopers,” Tucker and Elliott Parmelee.
Calling hours will be held at Biega’s Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, on Friday, January 23rd, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a short service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry’s memory to Troop 44 of Haddam and/or Troop 2 of Portland.
The services will be casual attire. Those attending are encouraged to come as they would have seen Henry, comfortable, perhaps in a favorite island shirt or a uniform that reflects service and community.

I knew Henry for a long time as a fellow member of the Middletown Rifle & Revolver Club. He was a great member and person. We would help with the scouts in their shooting program badges for many years.
He will be missed by all who are members.

I don’t even know where to begin in writing about Henry Muller. There was never a time in my life that I didn’t know him. All my memories with him would take up the entire guest book, so I’ll try to summarize it like this: His wisdom, encouragement, and love were as present as my own father’s, who generally agreed with Henry, and seconded his advice more often than not. I’ll miss my uncle immensely, but I’ll also take great comfort in his memory and the honor of having known him and called him family. My love and prayers to the whole Muller family.

I had the honor and privilege to have Sgt. Henry Muller as my supervisor on 3rd shift when I started at Whiting Forensic Institute, Middletown, CT. in August of 1988.
He was fair, firm and consistent as a supervisor. He unselfishly shared his knowledge and experiences with me. Sgt. Muller had a passion for being financially independent and for that I am forever indebted to him. Because of Sgt. Muller's. Influence I served the department for twenty years and retired as Master Sergeant.
Thanks for your knowledge shared and sleep in peace my friend.

Even though Henry is no longer with us, he will continue to live in our hearts. The humor and laughter he brought to our Wednesday retirees lunches will be missed, but our memories of him will live forever. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed more than words can say. Until we meet again.

I was honored and privileged to have worked with Sgt. Henry Muller at the DMHAS Police Department at the Whiting Forensic Institute PD on the midnight shift when I began state service.
Sgt. Muller was instrumental in honing and shaping both the WFI PD as well as the whole DMHAS Police Department.
His leadership, experience and significant expertise helped move the department forward for over 30 years, both as a full time officer as well as a part time retiree.
Sgt. Muller was respected by everyone both on the job and off. He supported his officers and mentored all of us that came to him for guidance.
Much appreciation to Lt. Albert Duguay (retired) and Officer John Ryan (retired) for keeping everyone informed on Henry's condition and an opportunity for us to speak with Henry at the end.
Sgt. Henry Muller, RIP. Thank you, Henry, for your service.
May God Bless Henry's entire family.

Henry was a very special part of East Hampton High class of 71. He was always ready to help with the planning of the reunions and always had good ideas for activities to do during these reunions. He was great at directing the raffle table. I remember in high school he was so emnamored with Barry Goldwater who was running for President, when the rest of us were more interested in who we were going to the prom with. Rest in peace Henry. There are many who will miss you and your sense of humor.
