Hugh Barnett Hall, Jr., age 91, died at The Beacon in Gulf Breeze, Florida, on April 23, 2020. He was the son of Hugh Barnett and Sarah Hall and was born in Opelika, Alabama, on December 10, 1928. After graduation from Clift High School, where he played on the football team, he graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Funeral services will be conducted for family and friends via Zoom on Thursday, April 30 at 10:00 am (Central). Please contact family or Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home for the information to join the Zoom service. Interment will be in the Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
If you have ever attended a funeral conducted by Reverend Hall, you know that to him the time after the funeral service for family and friends to share stories of their loved one was almost as important as the funeral service itself. Because the family will not be able to speak to friends and family at the funeral, we will miss the comfort of hearing all of the ways Reverend Hall impacted those in his life. We are asking everyone to please share your favorite memories and stories of Reverend Hall by leaving a message on the Waters & Hibbert website or by emailing Jennifer Turney ([email protected]). Jennifer will compile all of the your memories and stories in a book for the family to have and cherish for years to come.

As a nurse who cared for him for years, I found him to be an inspiration of love and kindness of the highest regard. He was so profoundly grateful for even the most minute act. What a testament of God's Love he is, and was, and now will always be for me.

Mere mortals words cannot truly express the high esteem that I felt for Father Hugh Hall! Just to say: Brotherly Love pales in comparison to my reverence for him!
Now I am profoundly sadden at his passing but know he is finally with
our Father who art in Heaven and I (we) must rejoice that we all had the blessing of his shepherding and the great pleasure of his companionship all these many wonderful years.
I would like to convey my deepest sympathy to Suzanne and Hughs entire family and close friends; just trying to imagine the degree of their sorrow breaks my heart.
I pray they will find joy in knowing that Fr Hugh will always be a wonderful bright shining light deep in all of our hearts here and everywhere he touched!
For one of many, Id like to say I feel truly blessed to have had him as a mentor in my own life. He was such a wonderful person to know and to be a witness to his profound belief in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
I (& many of others at All Saints) had the pleasure of studying under / with him and being privilege to his tutelage as the great scholar that he is! To witness first hand the depth of his knowledge and insights into the gospels was the highlight of my Christian learning experiences too date!
Fondly remembering him now, Im reminded of his words in one of our last conversation when he said: his most favorite words of the old gospel song
ROCK OF AGES (found on page 471 of the 1940 Hymnal / which he knew by heart)
were in found in *the last line of the 2nd verse*:..........
*IN MY HAND NO PRICE I BRING, SIMPLY TO THY CROSS I CLING*
... as one other spiritual being on this (sometimes painful) most human of experiences ... Id only like to add these other lines of Rock of Ages written by Augustus M. Toplady in1776 if I may to humbly try to bring those favorite lines of Father Hughs into context for those not so familiar with this hymn:
All for sin could not a - tone: Thou must save, and Thou a - lone;
When I rise to worlds un-known And be - hold thee on thy throne,
THOU MUST SAVE, AND THOU A - LONE;!

Father Hall was a brilliant man. When my husband passed away & I finally came back to church ... trying to be myself... he never said a word but came up to me & gave me a big LONG HUG. I cried in his arms a minute & thanked him ... it was what i needed most at that moment. The he just walked away giving me a knowing smile & i know to this day, Jesus was in that hug. I will ALWAYS treasure that moment. He gave me communion during chemo, I have all his cards hes ever sent me & have an autographed book of his sermons. He meant a lot to me as well as so many. I will surely miss him. His family are in my prayers. God bless you.
