Irene Agnes Kershisnik

1933 - 2025

IRENE AGNES KERSHISNIK peacefully passed away at the age of 92, in Northridge, CA, on December 21, 2025. She was born April 29, 1933, in Ithaca, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Alfred and Theresa Huebsch. Irene graduated from Marathon High School in 1951. In 1955, she graduated from Saint Mary's School of Nursing, in Wausau, Wisconsin as a registered nurse. She worked at Saint Frances Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, until she married Donald P. Kershisnik in the Basilica of Notre Dame on August 11, 1956. They moved to California where she worked as a critical care nurse at Saint Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, CA. After a 40 year career in nursing, she retired in 1996.

Although retired, she was an active volunteer as a nurse at the pregnancy counseling center and non-profit organization, MEND which serves the impoverished community in the San Fernando Valley. She was a devout Catholic and involved in many church volunteer programs. She was also a fabulous cook, loved to host parties for friends and family, loved Christmas gatherings, camping trips, visiting her Lake Arrowhead cabin, making Abel skivers and Belgian waffles with ice cream.

Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Marie Behringer and her husband Scott, Debra Renee Shedd and her husband Robert, Mary Beth Morris and her husband John, and son, Donald Gregory Kershisnik and wife Joyce, fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her Huebsch family includes two sisters, Sister Mary Ellen Huebsch, Rose Marie Leszczynski and one brother John Huebsch. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald P. Kershisnik, one daughter, Therese (Terri) Angele Flohr, her parents, and her siblings: Erma Leist, Rosamond Huebsch, Irvin Huebsch, Ivan Huebsch and Clara Mae Gorski.

A rosary and funeral mass service will be held on March 28, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Northridge, CA at 11:00 a.m. Internment will occur at a later date.
