Iris Lowe Obituary

Iris Gale Lowe, born on June 7th, 1944 in Gastonia, North Carolina- passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 4th, 2021. There are a lot of words to describe her, but some that come to mind are strong, intelligent, beautiful, funny, but the most suitable are kind and caring. She was a cosmetologist by trade and proud to be the wife of a Minister, to her belated husband Richard Lowe. They opened their home to multiple foster children and truly changed lives by doing so. Yet retired, she spent numerous years serving as Chaplin of the Clermont Eagles, Arie #4485 and donating her time to various non-profit organizations. Her smile could provide light for a city block and her laugh was contagious. She loved her life, her family, spending time with her dear friend Gina, watching Lakeside Church online and we cannot forget her dog GiGi. She spent her days speaking to her sisters Elsa and Sheryl for hours on end and her son Rick on his long rides home from work, she always loved to keep in touch with everyone.

She is survived by her five children, Sons Richard Lowe, Edward Lowe, Robert Waggoner, Daughters Amanda Smithey and Debbie Anderson. Three loving siblings, Brother Bill Carnes and her two sisters Sheryl Gudlaugsson and Elsa Morris. Iris was also blessed with 11 grandchildren whom she loved so much.

Grief can be so hard, but remembering all the good times and the long talks we had helps me to cope. Iris was my mother by marriage but also in some many more important ways. I miss her everyday.

Just to let you know how sorry we are for your loss. Richard and Gail were our uncle and aunt, but more than that, they called us their best friends. We will always remember all the good times we had together over the years. RIP until we meet again.

It was 1983 I was 17 years of age and little time to go before I turned 18 to set out on my own as a young adult and I had no patients for the welfare system. When You and Richard Brought me into your home being one of the last foster kids. More so at a difficult time as you lost your own momma and the things I was going through. I was fighting bucking the system and didn't want to leave where I was and it was a confusing time for me. Iris being a strong woman of faith and the will to help another person, she talked me into moving in. Richard said we don't have a lot of money and it doesn't cost any thing to have fun, Iris said that's right make your self at home and introduced me to Rick, Amanda and Little Joe . It took a couple of days before the move begin to set in. With the help of Rick and Amanda and getting to know them it was what I needed, a family to be a part of, one I could call my own. Iris took me around to meet more family when we moved from Fl to NC/SC after Hugo and so much to see eat, and people too meet and get to know and one of the first things she did do was take me to Gastonia to show me where they laid her mother to rest. I meet a couple of her aunts got to know her sisters nieces nephews etc. Richard taught me much more about god and family values morals and was a fine example of a man and a husband and Father one I most defiantly am proud to call dad and have got to know. They all proved what they was and are about. I love them all! Richard and Iris be with god forever more and thank you for being there for me and giving me a family to be a part of.

She was my momma in soo many ways though we are not mother son by blood, we have been through it and back. Mom has shown me many things throughout the days and her and dad took me in over 40 years ago and gave me a family worth having including two brothers and a sister. The first thing and quit often you would hear Mom and dad say,, it don't take money to have fun and it doesn't. We went through thick n thin good days a these bad but Dad taught me more about God and family values unlike any one I've ever known Mom aced piano and sang to us at times. Mom will be missed..God Speed and may we see you later in heaven.

My entire life you have been in it! A positive figure who never failed me. A constant at every turn in life, whether it was to support me in my endeavors or to lend an ear when life was full of bumps at every turn. Auntee, I love you now and forever. To all my cousins, I love each and everyone of you. She loved each and every one of you, more than you will ever know. I am praying for peace during the journey you all must walk. My heart is broken and will have a void forever.
