BETTIS, Mr. James-age 70, of Flint, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at his residence. A graveside burial will be held 9:00am Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442.
Mr. James Louis Bettis was born June 25, 1949 in Little Rock, Arkansas the son of Thayola (Doe) Bettis, Sr. and Bernice Pearson.
James graduated from Flint Northern High School. He served in the United States Military and received 2 Purple Hearts in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed watching war stories, loved football and playing games on his phone. James was part owner of Bettis & Bros. Grill and Dairy, and the Thoroughbred #2 Club both of Flint Michigan.
Mr. James Bettis leaves to cherish his memory: Carolyn (Kim) Grover; step daughter, Rochelle; grandchildren, Donovan, Dajiah, Kira, and Heavenly Sky; brothers, Thayola (Doe) Bettis, Jr. and Barry (Sulia M.) Pearson; sisters, Margret Ann Bettis, Donna Tina Bettis, and Evelyn Woods; nephews, Robert Bettis, David Todd Stocker, Jr., and Tony Lewis-Jamal Stocker; nieces, Deborah Love, Kimberly Love-Kemp, Doe (Madrianne) Moore, and Wonetha Louise Jackson-Hall; other relatives and friends including, Kenneth Cureton, Harold Gun Asburn, Karl Jackson, Fredrick McMillian, John Boy Walton, Rodney Beasley, Sponny, T.C. Colman, and Keyvonne Thompson.
Mr. James Bettis was preceded in death by: parents, Thayola (Doe) Bettis Sr. and Bernice Pearson; daughter; grandmother, Ethel Edwards Austin; aunts, Dorthey Mae Knauls, Freddie Mae Knauls, Dannie Mae Knauls; granddaughters, Shantel and Angel.
