James "Clet" Meyers, Sr. Obituary
James Cletus Meyers, Sr. (Clet), 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at his home in Trafalgar, Indiana surrounded by his children. He was born on February 4, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Francis Eular and Clara (Mappes) Meyers.
Clet grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1949. He was a veteran of the United States Army, 102nd Infantry Regiment.
After his service, he started his career as an electrician with L.S. Ayres downtown Indianapolis, Indiana in 1951. In 1963, he started as an Electrician with Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis, Indiana where he retired in January, 1992. Never will you meet a man who more faithfully lived his values as Clet Meyers. Clet married the love of his life and best friend Rosalind (Webb) Meyers on January 27, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were happily married for 58 years. Together they raised six children on a farm in Trafalgar, Indiana – James C. (Clete) Meyers, Jr. (Beci), Indianapolis, Indiana; Louis G (Gary) Meyers (Paula), Indianapolis, Indiana; Mary Murray (David), Franklin, Indiana; Chris Meyers of Indianapolis, Indiana; Tina Kirkhoff (Jeff), Indianapolis, Indiana; and Teresa Kirkhoff (Mark), Indianapolis, Indiana. Clet had 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
His wife preceded him in death in March, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers (Frank, Dick and Don Meyers) and three sisters (Mary Martha Miller, Clara Ann Gardner, and Virginia Weimer), and two grandchildren (Justin Meyers and Nicholas Kirkhoff).
Clet was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin, Indiana. He was a member of and in the Honor Guard for the Franklin American Legion Post 205, Franklin, Indiana. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Whiteland, Indiana. He was an avid woodworker and belonged to the Central Indiana Woodworkers of Indianapolis, Indiana; responsible for delivering over 10,000 wooden toys to children in central Indiana for Christmas.
Father Steve Schaftlein will conduct a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, in Franklin. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin and on Monday, from 9:00 a.m. to time of funeral mass at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made under his name to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin, Indiana.
