James "JB" Hamill Obituary

James “J.B.” Biglow Hamill, 101, was born on May 30, 1923, in Ringold, Oklahoma, the son of William Greer Hamill and Selina Elizabeth (Self) Hamill. He has moved from this Earth to paradise, where he knows Joy, overwhelming peace and God’s love and where he is with his family and friends who have gone on before him. J.B. was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Flora Joyce (Self) Hamill; brothers, Floyd Hamill and Marion Hamill; sisters, Cora Brownfield and Clara Williams and nephew, Clifford Alan Hamill.

J.B. served in the CCC Camp or Civilian Conservation Corp at the age of 18. He was honorably discharged and joined the United States Army in 1942, where he served in the 346th Infantry during World War II. J.B. was honorably discharged from military service in April of 1946. After proudly serving his country, J.B. attended the Texas Industrial Institute and received a diploma in woodworking in 1951 and later moved to California and worked for the Voit Rubber Company until 1956. After this he moved frequently around California, Washington, Oregon and many other states following the fruit picking trade. Finally, in the early 1970’s, J.B. found his way back to family and friends in Hugo, where he married his beloved wife, Flora “Joyce” (Self) Cox on May 22, 1987.

In his later years, J.B. lived at Baptist Village of Hugo, where he was loved and cared for by the nurses and staff. He attended church services, gospel music singing, veteran events and all kinds of social activities. He was not a patient but a true resident who enjoyed the social activities and people he saw daily. He liked to read the newspapers and kept up with local and world news. J.B. loved the Bible and could recite verses and passages. He loved the Lord with all his heart and especially loved his nieces and nephews and being around people. J.B. Hamill was the last of his 5 siblings and parents to cross that wonderful stairway – although we will miss his physical presence here, we must celebrate his journey because he is with the Father now.

J.B. is survived by his loving family, nieces, Debbie Lovelady of Reno, TX, Carolyn Sims and husband, Wayne of Mustang, OK and Anita Ann Lee and husband, Dennis of ; nephews Bobby Hamill of Hugo, OK, Sonny Hamill and wife, Debbie of Hugo, OK, Junior Hamill and wife, Kelly of Paris, TX, Jay Baker and wife, Brenda of Greenville, TX and Mark Baker and wife, Helen of Reno, TX along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Mr Hamill was a very special friend during the time I worked at Baptist Village. He was very active and enjoyed activities. He was one of my special Veterans. He also was a friend of my Dad and he would tell me stories of their days working together. He will be missed.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. We are so thankful you took James B under your wing.
We sure enjoyed all the meals we shared with James and hearing his stories of his military days & all the gallons of coffee he made in the military.
Love to all the family. James was very special to us. He is absent from us but present with Jesus. Hugs to all.
