Uncle Jim and his Sis

My Uncle had a larger than life personality, and a heart to match. He deeply loved his family, and never forgot where he came from. A proud West Virginia boy. He was a protective and loving big brother to my mom, and always genuinely cared about me. I will miss his laughter. You couldn’t help but smile when he laughed. I’ll also miss hearing his voice when he would tell my mom that he loved her, and he and I would get the chance to tell each other that we loved one another too as they...

I miss our phone calls big brother ! Love ya Sis

Jimmy and I were in the same High School graduating class. Montcalm High School, Class of 1959. He grew up in Duhring where I did also and we all attended church together at the Duhring Church of Christ. My sincere sympathy to all of his family.

Wally and I were so sad to hear about your dad's passing. He was a wonderful person in our lives, starting with the fact that he was close with my dad, NIck,in Santa Maria Boy Scouts. You girls were in our lives as babysitters, too! we are so sorry we cannot attend the services. We are leaving for Virginia on Thursday morning. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

To the family, This is Paul & Jo Ann Whitteker of Duhring, WV. Paul and Jim were first cousins. Paul’s dad Clarence and Nellie were brother/sister. Our condolences to everyone.

James's Obituary

James Marion Jessup, age 86, of Lindenhurst, Illinois, passed away of natural causes at Victory Lakes on 7/18/2025. Born on July 27, 1939, in West Virginia, Jim lived a life rich in family, faith, and purpose.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Julie Jessup, in December of 2014. Together, they raised five children who were the center of their world: Kathi Corbett (the late Dan Corbett), Jennifer Geiger (Eric), Michael Jessup (Maria), Andrew Jessup (Michelle), and Amy Jessup-Tilford (John). Jim was a proud grandfather of 18 and a great-grandfather of 7. He is survived by his brother John Jessup and sister Janie Short, he is also preceded in death by his parents, James Mathew and Nellie Virginia Jessup.

A U.S. Army veteran, Jim spent much of his professional life in sales before transitioning to life as a semi-truck driver. No matter what the job, he approached it with dedication and an opinion or two.

Known to be cantankerous at times and always passionate about his ideas, Jim was hard-headed in the most loving and memorable ways. He loved his family fiercely and was deeply involved in each of his children’s lives, always encouraging them to become their best. He was endlessly proud of the people they grew up to be, shaped by the example he and Julie set together.

Jim was a faithful member of Santa Maria del Popolo Catholic Church in Mundelein, where he was active in the parish and local community. He found joy in woodworking, home improvement projects, and offering his unsolicited advice, usually prefaced by one of his favorite lines:“There are two ways to do things—the right way, and the Jim Jessup way.”(And no, that’s not typed in the wrong order.)

Though never known for his joke delivery (or his punchlines), Jim’s sense of humor and presence will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be Thursday July 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kristan Funeral Home 219 W Maple Ave. Mundelein IL 60060.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Friday July 25, 2025 at Santa Maria del Popolo Church 116 N Lake St. interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville.
