James "Jim" Stephen Owens, 68, of 200 Echo Circle and husband of Carol Hicks Owens, passed away Wednesday March 19, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.

Mr. Owens was born in Florida, the son of the late Joseph Frank and Sallie Cox Goodwin. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. He was a member of Crosswell First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Johnny Cole and his wife, Caryn, of Piedmont, SC' a daughter, Tammy Mize and her husband, Monte, of Easley, SC; a sister, Helen Aenchbacher, of Inman, SC; 8 grandchildren, Chad Cole, Brittaney Cole, Carly Mize, Cody Cole, Luke Cole, Whitney Gilbert, Shannon Mitzel, Chris Mize and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frankie Cole.

A memorial service will be held Friday March 21, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Crosswell First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 3:45 pm Friday, prior to the service, at the church.

Co-workers from Mt. Vernon Mills are invited to serve as Escort of Honor for the memorial service.

I am so sorry for your loss. Jim was a part of my work family for 20 years until he retired. He was always kind and had an optimistic outlook on life. He will be missed by all of us. You and your family are in my prayers.
