James Ronald Mecklin “Ron”, age 94, died peacefully at Riddle Hospital on January 15, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of two children, four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Marfa, TX, Ron was the son of Hyacinth and James H. Mecklin. He graduated from Marfa High School and studied at Texas A&M College graduating with the class of 1953. After college, Ron served in the US Air Force as a helicopter pilot for seven years where he flew various missions. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
In 1956, Ron married Sally Travis and the two eventually settled in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Ron began a lengthy career at Boeing working as an experimental test pilot. While a test pilot, Ron made numerous trips overseas where he made lifelong friends and had lots of stories to tell. Some of the places he went to were England, Spain, China, Tibet, and South Korea. He was also on numerous flight magazine covers and received abundant awards. Sally and Ron raised their two children in Springfield before moving to Media. Saleigh preceded Ron in death in 1998 after 42 years of marriage.
Ron was a longtime member and an active volunteer at Christ Church in Media. He enjoyed his friends from the church, Bible Study, and giving communion to shut ins. He was very active at Fox Hill Farms where he sang, played shuffleboard, and went to a lot of coffee hours at the Clubhouse. He loved to watch football, baseball and golf, and he frequently met up with old work colleagues and friends for meals. Ron was an all around helpful and friendly gentleman. He was always willing to help out friends and family. Ron was blessed to find love again in later years. He spent nineteen years with his wife, Ruth, who preceded him in death in 2022. Ron will be remembered fondly by his loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a loving, generous, sweet person with a big heart.
Ron is survived by his children C’Les Dee Mecklin of Stroudsburg, PA and Rone Del Galeone of York, PA; grandchildren Nina Adamczyk, Floyd Beach Palmer, Aimie Rebecca Lane and Stephen James Young; and great-grandchildren Timothy, Daniel, William, Bailey, Harlie, Lillie, Lucas, Savannah-Jo, Tyler and Sawyer. ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) breakfast

We met Ron and Ruth soon after moving to Fox Hill Farm in 2006. We started our ongoing discussions of the USAF and military at monthly breakfast outings of the Fox Hill Farm ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) in 2006 and continued until days before his passing. Of course, we often commented on the status of the Aggies football team and discussed his days at Boeing with occasional test flights over one of our ROMEOs' breakfast diners. We enjoyed his company at Fox Hill Farm events and even at the Christ Church Chili cookoffs. Even though we were a part of his long life for only a relatively short time, we could see that his was a life well lived, now reuniting with loved ones who have gone before him. Rest in peace.

I met Ron in 1956 in Japan while we were both in the Airforce. He and another airman landed their helicopter on a small beach and he gave me a tour of the aircraft. Many years later we both worked at Boeing Helicopters and after retirement coincidentally bought homes in Foxhill Farm. Ron was a treasured friend and respected by everyone that was fortunate to know him. Rest in peace dear friend.

I live across the street from Ron and Ruth and have many happy memories of them. From watching them work on their flowers to them enjoying nice weather sitting outside. Ron and I always waved to each other and I got used to seeing his garage door open and his black car. I also leave my garage door open often I will miss his waves and hope he finds peace and happiness with loved ones. Condolences to the family.

I am so sorry to hear about Ron's passing. About 5 years ago we moved to Fox Hill Farms across the street from Ron and Ruth. We met them in that first week and they made us feel at home. There were many afternoon driveway get togethers because it was during covid. We found out more about our little community and met the neighbors because of them both. I just sat with Ron in the driveway a few weeks ago like we did back then. I had no idea there was any issue. I'll miss those stories about his past and his smile. My sincerest condolences to his family for your loss. He was a pretty nice guy as was his wife Ruth. I'd like to think they are together again.

My deepest condolences for the passing of your father and grandfather , I flew with Ron for many years as a production flight test engineer and I can say I always felt safe in his hands when he was at the controls of a aircraft. Be comforted in knowing he is now in the hands of God and feels that safety.
