James Reynolds, Sr. Obituary

James R. “Jim” Reynolds, Sr., 88, of Watertown, passed away at home Saturday, December 6th, 2025.

The funeral service will be 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 11th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will take place in the spring in North Watertown Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home beginning at 3:00pm.

Jim was born in Gouverneur November 22, 1937, a son to Merle R. and Julia (Merritt) Reynolds. He was educated locally and worked as a construction worker for the Massena Union 322.

On September 26, 1959, Jim married Jean M. Conant following 3 years of being together.

Jim, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering love for his family.  His passing has left a void in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean; his children, James R., Jr. and Kimberly Reynolds of Carthage, Robin S. and Darlene Reynolds of Watertown, Shannon M. and Shawn Ryan of Carthage; his grandchildren, Jaymee, Aaron, Chad, Amanda, Christopher, Caitlin, Joshua, Shawna, Madison; and his siblings, Michael, Connie, Merle, March, Raven, Sparrow, Wren and Dove. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents Jim is predeceased by his son, Christopher P. Reynolds (2002); his great granddaughter, Ainslee K. Reynolds (2023); his siblings, Elizabeth, Merritt, Gayle; his stepmother, Ruth Reynolds; and his stepfather, Robert H. Miller.

Jim was a true gentleman and friend. I've known Jim and Jean from the 1950's on. A fantastic pair who loved music and just being together, You seldom saw one without the other. I am so sorry Jean that I am unable to attend services, but you and Jim leave a legacy of love that we all wish we could follow. What a beautiful couple.
You are in our thoughts and prayers Jean. We love you!

I can’t even out into words how my heart aches. My Uncle Jim was my favorite Uncle, and I spent many times growing up spending time with him and Aunt Jean. As adults, we enjoyed going to dinners, karaoke, family gatherings or just spending time together. Our memories will help soothe my heart, and we will all be together again. We all will look after Aunt Jean. Rest In Peace Uncle Jim. I love you❤

My loving brother. You are going to be missed by so many. To Jean and the children my heart aches for all of you. I know the memories will keep you going as he would want you to. Love and tears will be shed a lot for a life we were all glad to be a part of. His legacy is in his children and grandchildren who will always have a part of him and hopefully his personality. Keep trucking and remember he’s watching you and laughing at all of you. Love always March
