James Riggs, Sr. Obituary

James Everett Riggs Sr., long time Lawman, passed away November 26, 2014 and was called home to the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior. Jim Riggs Sr., was born in Crystal City, Texas, May 25, 1925 to Mildred Stroman Riggs and Walter E. "Ebb" Riggs. After serving in the U. S. Navy, WWII, he began his colorful career of 40 years as a Lawman following is father's footsteps, who was a Texas Ranger and U. S. Deputy Marshal of Del Rio. Jim Riggs' law career included: U.S. Federal Commissioner for Del Rio, U. S. Treasury Department, Texas State Game Warden, U. S. Customs service, U. S. Drug Enforcement administration and was Special Agent in Charge, DEA for the Del Rio sector. After retiring from Federal Law enforcement he became Chief of Police for the city of Del Rio. Although called "The Legend" in Law enforcement his passion was giving out Gideon Bibles and witnessing about Jesus' love to others. A Gideon for over 40 years, Jim started Gideon Camps wherever he went. He served as an Elder of his church for many years. He kept the faith…he ran the race and finished victorious. Mr. Riggs is survived by his devoted wife: Bettie Riggs; brothers: Jack Riggs and his wife Janie and Dan Riggs; daughter: Nancy Anne Klinck and her husband Clifford; son: James E. Riggs, Jr. and his wife Kim; grandchildren: Jim Klinck and his wife Helen, Jennifer Klinck Arko and her husband Frank, Elizabeth Klinck Martin and her husband Wayne, Joshua Riggs and his wife Mariah, Brittany Riggs Zimmerman and her husband Shane, Matthew Riggs and his wife Kristen and Taylor Riggs; Great-grandchildren: Zach, Kayla, Jace and Hallie Arko; Cole, Caden and Adelynn Martin; Andrew, Kate and Sean Klinck and Rowan and Phoebe Riggs. His love of family, friends, and prayers for each, standing solid for righteousness, leaves a lasting legacy. Visitation will be on Friday, 5-9:00P.M, with the family receiving friends form 5-7:00P.M, December 5, 2014 G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be on Saturday, 10:30A.M, December 6, 2014 at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery with Minister John Cary, Burt Stidham and Buddy Means officiating. Pallbearers are Jim Klinck, Joshua Riggs, Matthew Riggs, Taylor Riggs, Frank Arko, Zach Arko, Wayne Martin and Jack Tanner. Honorary Pallbearers are Kevin McMahon, Burt Stidham, Buddy Means, Ted Luce, John Day, Dennis Hoerster, and Mike Ballard. Chip and Lanette love Grandy and we are so thankful we will see all of our family in heaven. What great memories we have of our time in Del Rio!
