James Arnold Roland, age 68, of Princeton, West Virginia, passed away on January 3, 2025, in Princeton. He was born on May 6, 1957, in Bluefield, West Virginia, and lived a life rooted deeply in family, loyalty, and quiet dedication. James was preceded in death by his father, James Preston Roland, and his beloved son, Matthew James Roland, a loss he carried in his heart every day. Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Betty Ann Hazelwood, and stepfather, Claude Hazelwood; his devoted partner of 23 years, Susan Collins, who stood by his side through life's joys and hardships; and his children, Claude Richard Roland (Kelly) and Daniel Preston Roland (Nikki). He was also a loving stepfather to Jackson Collins (Alida) of Bluefield and Misty Collins (Charles Proffitt) of Princeton. James was a proud and loving grandfather to James, Ava, Lydia, Noah, and Catelyn Roland, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. He also embraced his step-grandchildren, Miyana Collins and Raylan Mowdy, as his own. He shared a special bond with his dear friend, Jackie Collins, whose friendship meant more to him than words could express. James retired from The City of Princeton, where he gave years of dedicated service. He was known as a steady, dependable presence someone who showed up, worked hard, and didn't seek recognition, but earned respect, nonetheless. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. His love for his family ran deep, and those closest to him knew they could always count on him. Above all, James will be remembered for his heart-strong, protective, and deeply devoted to those he loved. His absence leaves a quiet space that cannot be filled, but his legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him. James Arnold Roland will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. In keeping with James’ wishes, he will be cremated. The family will have a private burial at a later date.
