Jim is survived by his son Christoper Ray Sidbury, his niece Joan R. Kelly and many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews who all loved his humor and his playful nature.

Jim lived life to the fullest.  His strong sense of service in the US Coast Guard, traveling all over the world; adventures as a foreman on the Alaskan pipeline construction project; a sheriff in Louisiana and, an instructor with multiple paper mills from Washington to Louisiana until he retired 20 years ago.  He had a great passion for his horses and rodeo, softball / baseball since high school and played until his early eighties and a love for cars, racing as a youth and for NASCAR.  He was a loyal friend and made many friends along the way from the West coast to the East coast and everything and everyone would agree, he did “his way”.

Jim’s legacy of wit, love, kindness, and willingness to help others will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare especially Beth.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington, NC.

My deepest sympathies to Jim's family. I only knew him from O2 Fitness where we seemed to gravitate to the same treadmills every morning before Covid. When I saw his obituary in the paper, my heart sank. He was so kind and friendly, and I know the world around him will feel a little bit emptier. May God give you peace during this time.

I knew Jimmy from softball. I first met him when I sponsored a softball team and he was drafted on it. We had a great bunch of guys and we became good friends. We would bring coolers and after the games we usually had 1 or 2 drinks and sometimes one of the guys would bring his barbecue grill and we would have hotdogs or hamburgers too. we stayed together as a team for a number of seasons and as we got older and moved up to the older league Jimmy asked me if I would sponsor a team there and he wanted to manage it. We lost the first 3 games. Jimmy and I were talking about what was wrong because we both thought we had a pretty good team. Well I said to jimmy if we kept this up I might need a new manager. I said it with a straight face and didn't crack a smile. He just looked at me trying to figure out if I was serious. We always kidded each other about who was the better batter and player ( he was) but he didn't say anything and I don't think we lost another game after that and took the first place for the season and the playoffs. We would get together later on Saturday afternoons for a few drinks and reminisce about the great times we had playing ball together. Jimmy was a great guy and I will miss him. I always admired the many things he had done in his life. God bless you Jim

Jim was our next door neighbor from 2000 til 2010 when we moved back to TN. He was such a blessing with his wit, helpful nature and love for us. We missed him when we moved but will continue tocarry him in our memories.

I played softball with Jim from 2007 until 2017, when he found he could no longer play. He would remain in contact with his former teammates and he would always check on them to make sure they are OK. He will be missed by everyone he played with. My condolences to his family.

I know Jim from the Wilmington Senior Softball Assoc. When I managed the Carrabba's team he was on the team. He was a good hitter and easy to get along with. I remained in touch with Jim after stopped playing. I spoke with him frequently when he was going through his treatment. Reat in peace my friend. Condolences to his family.
