Janice Kade Gatlin was born on November 19, 1954, in Tylertown, Mississippi, to Audree G. Ginn and Hubert H. Ginn, and was later raised in Hammond, Indiana, where she built a life rooted in family, loyalty, and quiet strength.
As a child, Janice was baptized at St. John AME Zion Church in Hammond, Indiana, a foundation that helped shape her values and faith throughout her life.
Janice graduated from Hammond Technical Vocational High School in 1973. In 1974, she married Kevin Gatlin, the love of her life. They were married for 51 years, sharing a lifelong partnership grounded in devotion, commitment, and mutual respect.
She worked for many years at Dunes Rexall/Fagen Pharmacy in Gary, Indiana, where she was known as dependable and hardworking, until her retirement. Her work ethic reflected the way she lived—consistent, reliable, and selfless.
Janice was known for her calm spirit, gentle nature, and subtle sense of humor. She was a quiet presence, yet her impact was deeply felt by those who knew her. Loyal to the people she loved, she was always willing to help others and took great pride in raising her children. Family was the center of her life, and she expressed her love through her steady support, patience, and care.
Janice leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Kevin Gatlin; her daughters, April Gatlin, Monique Gatlin, and Shayna Gatlin; her son, Kevin (Sherri) Gatlin II; her grandson, Jeremiah Williams; her siblings, Harold Ginn, Andrea Ginn, Mia (Nicholas) Jones, and Cecile (Frank) McClellan; her brother-in-law, Onette Gatlin; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Janice Kade Gatlin will be remembered for her gentle heart, quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and the love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the family she so carefully nurtured.

I am Cecile the oldest of my siblings, Janice, Harold, Andrea and Mia. We may not have grown up together, but the past 52 years the bond was created through our Pops. We love our nieces, nephews, cousins and extended families both individually and collectively. I pray that our strength in the Lord will keep us forever bonded. I will always miss Mrs. Janice Kade Ginn Gatlin
