Janie M. Newtson

1954 - 2026

Janie Marie Newtson, née Hanson, 72, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on February 4, 2026 at Accura HeathCare of North Platte. She was born on February 4, 1954 in North Platte, Nebraska to Gerald Hanson and Twilla Stanley. 

She graduated from North Platte High School in 1973 and later attended Mid-Plains Community College. Janie was wed to Dale A. Newtson in North Platte in 1996.

Janie retired from General Motors after over a decade due to an injury and then became a homemaker and wife of 29 years. She found joy in puzzles and card games, but her greatest passion was caring for cats, whom she lovingly cared for in great numbers. Janie will be remembered for her contagious, spirit-lifting laugh.

Janie is survived by her siblings, John (Stacey) Hanson of North Platte, Rebecca Stanley of Edmond, OK, Mary Stewart of North Platte, Orpha (Terry) Walker of Gothenburg; nieces and nephews, Stephanie (David) Lee, Jonathan May, Tommie Atkins, and Casondra (Mark) Martinez; along with many great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents, Gerald and Twilla; siblings, Andrew Stanley, Glendin Patrick, John Garner, Lavella Pfeister, Leona Webster, and Don Garner.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Book signing will be Tuesday, February 17, 12-5 P.M. at Adams & Swanson Funeral home who is assisting the family.
