Flo Michael was a very special lady. She was loving, kind, wise, humorous and courageous. She was a fine example of a godly woman who believed in the power of prayer. Her smile, laugh and gentle ways will be deeply missed.

Florence Wise Murphy Michael Beloved wife of Dr. William S. Michael, cherished mother of Jennifer Michael, Kristen Michael, and Shannon Farrell, and dear mother-in-law of Ted Farrell, died April 4, 2005, after a long and courageous struggle against ovarian cancer. Flo is also survived by her dear sisters, Mary Exline and Paula MacCormack, and their families. Flo grew up in Washington, D.C., and attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where she majored in sociology, served as a cheerleader, and joined Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was elected to the Mortar Board and to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and graduated with honors in 1955. At OWU Flo met Bill Michael, whom she married after graduation. They settled in the Bay Area in 1961 and lived in Los Gatos for nearly forty years. Flo was a mother and homemaker, an enthusiastic and creative cook, active in volunteer work and with her church, and a loving support to her husband and children. When her daughters were mostly grown, she went back to school and earned a master's degree in counseling from San Jose State University, then began a small practice as a marriage-family therapist. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Saratoga Federated Church, in Saratoga. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Flo's name to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 910 17th St., N.W., Suite 413, Washington DC 20006. Arrangements by DARLING-FISCHER Chapel of the Hills, Los Gatos, California.
