Jerome Plantenberg Obituary
Jerome Anthony Plantenberg blessed this earth with his kind and generous ways for 85 years and passed away on August 30, 2013. He was born in St. Cloud, MN to John and Barbara (Knaus) Plantenberg on October 29, 1927. He graduated from Cathedral High School, and served in the US Army during WWII. He attended St. John's University. On June 6, 1950, he married Ardell Gohl and they were married for 63 years. Their most recent home of 35 years was in Hanover, MN.
Jerry retired as a printer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune after 30 years, and pursued his interest in woodworking and cabinetry. His volunteer service included tutoring English, Amicus, Knights of Columbus, and extensive work for Habitat for Humanity, among countless other volunteer endeavors. He was very willing to share his gifts and talents with others and lived his life in the true spirit of kindness and compassion.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ardell; daughters Ann (Tom) Disselkamp, Elizabeth (Tim) Cole, and Paula (Jeff) Kilian; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight brothers and sisters. His loving generosity will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 7, 2013, 2:00 PM at St. John's Abbey Church in Collegeville, MN, with visitation one hour before Mass. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
