Jerry Davidson Obituary

Jerry Lynn Davidson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

Jerry was born on March 6, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas to Karl Marx and Alma Ruth Davidson.  He graduated from Temple High School in 1960 and went on to attend Temple Junior College and Lamar University where he later graduated in 1964 with a BS in Finance.  Jerry met his beautiful bride during his college years and was united in marriage to Sara Davidson on May 27, 1964. They spent 53 years of marriage together living in Beaumont, Victoria, Pleasanton and San Antonio.

Jerry and his wife started a family in Beaumont, Tx where he began his career in banking as a loan officer at Beaumont State Bank. He went on to spend the majority of his career in the banking industry serving in a multitude of leadership roles. He served on various bank boards across the state of Texas during his banking years and loved making connections and building new relationships with anyone he came in contact with.  After serving in banking, Jerry spent some time working in hospital administration at Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio where he was able to balance his love of finance with his love for helping others struggling with addiction. In the latter part of his life, Jerry finished out his career in Pleasanton working as the Executive Director of Economic Development in which he was able to passionately advocate for making his community better.  He was most proud of the work he did in helping to make Coastal Bend College a reality in Atascosa County.

Jerry enjoyed golfing, gambling, playing dominoes and attending Club 12 meetings with dear friends. He loved watching college sports with his wife Sara and was especially fond of the Baylor Bears. He loved listening to live music with friends and spent many evenings in the last several months of his life listening to Frank Sinatra with his brother.   He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, father in law and friend.  Jerry was not ever afraid to stand up for what he believed and was fiercely determined when he supported a cause.  Some might say he has passed this trait on generously to his children.  Jerry always considered his big family to be his greatest accomplishment in life.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Sara Davidson.

He is survived by his children Lynn(Warren) Oliver of Victoria, Katherine(Jeff) Schaedler of San Antonio, Will(Andrea) Davidson of Boerne and Caroline(Russell) Green of Aledo. Jerry’s legacy also included 14 grandchildren; Justin Oliver, Cullen Oliver, Hudson Oliver, Mackenzie Davidson, Riley Davidson, Samantha Davidson, Jack Green, Ellie Grace Green, Channing Green, Austin Schaedler, Chase Schaedler, Cody Schaedler, Caylee Schaedler and Ian Oberholtzer. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Davidson and his first cousin, Jim Wynn.

A family visitation and viewing will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 3-6 pm at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W Oaklawn, Pleasanton. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2019 at 10:00 am, at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Main Street, Pleasanton.  There will be light refreshments following the service followed by a burial at Sandbranch Cemetery in Kyote, Tx.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church in Pleasanton.

Lynn, Katherine, Will and Caroline,
I feel heart broken for the loss of your precious Dad. Your parents, Bruce and I shared quality, fun and always special times together. Our friendship began in the early seventies and continued until you moved from Beaumont. Amy and Bruce II also shared many special times with you. Bruce and I were honored when your parents asked us to be Will's Godparents. I am so sorry Amy and I cannot be with you Sunday and Monday in Pleasanton. We will be there in spirit and you are in our thoughts and prayers. Your parents were proud of you and your individual families. Sara told me many times the four of you went over and beyond for them. They loved you deeply. Let your positive memories and God's peace get you through the rough days.

God Bless Jerry Davidson!
December 1st, 1994 an angel brought me to Jerry's office/ministry on the 5th floor of The Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. I had been struggling with alcohol and had made so many promises to friends and family that I would quit. Then Jerry asked me the question that no one else had ever thought of. "David", he said, " do you think you have a problem with alcohol?" "YES!", I told him. He then presented me with my first big book of Alcoholics Anonymous and that is why, when I am asked to share my story, I always include Jerry "The Angel" Davidson as a crucial part of my recovery. Thank you Jerry for my 24 years of sobriety... so far.

The Davidson patriarch was a man of great presence, strength and perseverance. We were so privileged to get to know him over the years, be included in family gatherings and especially spend time with him in his last months in Boerne. You are his legacy and recipients of his life lessons. We praise God for giving this man to so many and for preparing his mansion in eternity.
