Jerry Thomas

1933 - 2021

Geraldine (Jerry) Thomas, 87,of Justin, TX crossed into the arms of her Savior with her children by her side on Sunday, January 10, 2021 in Irving,Texas. Our precious mother was the rock of our family. She led us to Jesus and showed us by example how to live this life well. The entire family knew to go to Granny’s shoulder when hurting or celebrating our joys and victories. Her family enjoyed many a Sunday of gluttony around her table.  Jerry was a “Martha” who always put others first. She loved to visit and help others who might just need a smile, hug or encouragement.  Jerry was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Justin, singing in the choirs and teaching children’s Sunday School for many, many years.  

Jerry was a beautician in Justin for over forty years. She was an “A number one” beautician. Most of her patrons thought no-one else could possibly fix their hair correctly. She wasn’t allowed to get sick! Being a beautician was a calling for Jerry. She developed close relationships and deeply cared about her customers. Jerry’s legacy is far-reaching for the Kingdom of Heaven, and we can be assured that our Lord received her into heaven saying, "Well done my good and faithful servant.” We are so thankful that our sweet Granny and mother is suffering no more. She is singing in the heavenly choir and walking the streets of gold with all of her family and friends. 

Jerry was born on November 13, 1933 in Ponder, Texas to Iva Francis (Tommie) Williams and Mikel Pope. She graduated from Ponder High School where her favorite subject was volleyball. She married Charles Burnett Thomas on June 23, 1951.  Jerry is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Pat Seely, brothers Mikel Pope, Jr. and Tommy Lee Pope.  

Jerry is survived by her husband, Burnett Thomas, daughter Charla Pepper and son Roy Thomas and wife Cathy, all of Justin, TX.  Jerry is also survived by her grandchildren, Christi Simmons and husband Shawn, Kelli Escamilla, Rachel Rangel and husband Moises, and Mikel Thomas and wife Shelley as well as ten great-grandchildren: Hayden, Grace, and Kate Simmons, Molly and Maggie Escamilla, Ella, Isabel, Abigail, and Luciana Rangel, and Sunny Thomas. Finally, Jerry is survived by her two sisters-in-law RoyLou Reynolds of Justin and Juanita Watson of Benbrook, and brother-in-law Tom Seely of Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Justin, burial will follow at Justin Cemetery in Justin, TX.

Viewing will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for anyone that may like the opportunity.
