Jesse Lopez Jr. passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on October 14, 1935, Jesse lived a rich and meaningful life defined by service, passion, and love for family and community.
A proud veteran, Jesse dedicated much of his life to serving his country, both in and out of uniform. He spent two years in active duty with the U.S. Army, including service in Korea, followed by six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. After his military service, Jesse continued his commitment to public service with a remarkable 38-year civilian career at Fort Sam Houston, where he worked in the publications department for the U.S. government. His strong work ethic, attention to detail, and sense of duty made him a respected and valued member of the team throughout his long and distinguished career.
Jesse was an active member of the St. Paul Catholic Church community serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a third-degree Knight and spent many weekends volunteering for the church. In addition, he was also active within the Monticello Park Neighborhood Association and was an integral part in the creation of its historical designation.
Music played a special role in Jesse’s life. He was a lifelong lover of music and gifted clarinet player. He enjoyed listening to music and humming along and shared his love for music with those around him.
Even greater than his love for music was his passion for sports. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. Whether it was football season or baseball playoffs, Jesse never missed a game. He also loved playing sports himself, spending years as a bowler and baseball player, enjoying both the competition and camaraderie they brought.
At home, Jesse loved spending time outdoors, especially working in his yard, where he took pride in keeping everything neat and beautiful. He also enjoyed daily walks with his dogs, finding peace and happiness in their quiet companionship.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents Hortencia Rangel Lopez and Jesse Lopez Sr., his brother Roy Lopez, his mother-in-law Sophia Morua, father-in-law Enrique Morua, and brothers-in-law Tony Del Rio, Arnold Quintana, Rafael Fernandez, and Philip Bedard.

Jesse was a kind, humble, and steady presence in the lives of those who knew him.His warm smile, gentle humor, and unwavering strength will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to call him family or friend. He leaves behind a legacy of service, joy, and love that will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
