Jim Opie Obituary
James (Jim) Opie of Butte, Montana, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, surrounded by family and his wife of 64 years. Jim was born June 30, 1939 in Kalispell, Montana to Bill and Kaythryn (Devine) Opie; and, raised in Anaconda, Montana.
Jim married Carol Stefani on February 3, 1962 in Butte, MT where they lived and raised their 6 children. Jim is survived by his wife Carol of 64 years, his 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Jim never met a stranger and he lived life with his signature “flat-top” and a permanent smile on his face for everyone he met.
The family would like to thank staff at Big Sky Living, Megan from Stillwater Hospice, and the nurses and doctors at St. James Hospital for their care and compassion.
Family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Montana Tech Foundation.
