Jim Rogers Obituary

JAMES "JIM" CLIFTON ROGERS

James "Jim" Clifton Rogers, age 66, of Leonard, MO, passed away Monday, October 31, 2016, at the Samaritan Memorial Hospital, in Macon, MO.

Jim was born on February 7, 1950, the son of Clifton Arvie Rogers and Edna Irene Manuel. He was united in marriage to Brenda Jo Formento on October 25, 1975 at the First Baptist Church in Macon, MO, recently celebrating their 41st wedding anniversary. She survives.

Jim is also survived by his two daughters, Jaime Williams and husband Donny of Leonard, MO, and Jordan Force and husband Laden of Leonard, MO; grandchildren, Augustine "Gus" James, Ava Jo, and Domenic Williams; and Stone and James "Wilder" Force; one sister, Sharon Almquist and husband Doug of Fremont, NE; one brother-in-law, Rick Formento of St. Joseph, MO; nieces, a nephew, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Karen Jones.

He attended elementary school in Leonard and was a member of the 1968 graduating class of North Shelby. After graduating from Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO, he was a teacher and coach, starting the first girls' basketball program at Kirksville High School. He was looking forward to retiring this winter after working in sales for GEA Farm Technologies (Westfalia-Surge) for 33 years. Jim could be seen on the sidelines of most any sport supporting all Raider athletes, pushing strollers and playing with kids in his community, or on his morning route of caring for his Leonard stray kitties and dogs. One of his most treasured titles was "Papa Jim" to his grandkids, but there were many others that also called him by that name. Most of all, he adored his girls and would do anything for them.

Jim belonged to the Leonard Christian Church, the Village of Leonard Board, and was Treasurer of the Leonard Cemetery. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outside, coaching youth basketball, attending his morning coffee visits at the Fest Hall and the One Stop, and watching or doing almost anything with his grandkids.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at the Leonard Christian Church, in Leonard, MO. Visitation services will be held Wednesday evening, November 2, 2016, from 4pm to 8pm at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Memorials may be made to Field of Dreams Rescue and the Leonard Playground Fund.

I was one of the original basketball players on that KHS team that he started with help of Title 9. I remember those days like yesterday. Great times. Great Coach.
Sorry for your loss!

Dear Brenda --In 1973, when Jim's Dad was ill --- I finished out the school year filling in for Irene with her 3rd/4th grade class at the Leonard Elementary School while she was seeing to her husband. Then was so happy to meet you, Brenda, and Jim when Barb Blaine got many of us "young couples" together in Leonard a bit later in the 70's. Even though we moved from the Leonard area - I always appreciated your friendship - and just wanted you to know that Gordon and I are thinking of you, the girls and families at this sad time. We are so sorry to hear of Jim's untimely passing. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

My sympathy to each of you. I remember how Jim was so good about going to see his mom when she was at Clarence Care Center and she enjoyed his visits so.
May he rest in peace. May God bless and comfort you during this difficult time.
