John D. Brewer, Jr., 81, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Jacksonville, FL on June 4, 1944, to John and Anna Brewer, John developed a love for the sky at an early age. After graduating from the University of North Carolina, he went on to serve his country as a fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps where he fought in the Vietnam War, was awarded numerous honors including the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded for heroism during aerial combat operations and was a graduate of Navy Fighter Weapons School (aka TOPGUN).
After landing in Pensacola as a flight instructor at NAS Pensacola, John married Anne Trice Brewer and they were blessed with one son, John Troupe Brewer.
Following his service, John transitioned his career into wealth management. He enjoyed a successful career for over 44 years and loved serving his friends and clients alongside his wife and business partner, Nann Brewer.
Outside the cockpit, John loved the outdoors and was an incredible marksman and avid hunter. He traveled all over the world hunting, including trips to Tajikistan, Argentina and New Zealand. His favorite place was the woods of Alabama where he would spend quiet mornings hunting turkeys.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Nann Castleberry Brewer; his children, John Troupe Brewer (Sarah Nelson Brewer), Grant Brewer, Jackson Brewer, Ashlyn Brewer, and his treasured grandchildren, Eleanor Lee Brewer and Anne Bouchelle Brewer. He is also survived by siblings James Brewer, Tim Brewer, and Patti Brewer, along with many nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered for his steady hand, adventurous spirit, and deep love for his family and friends. He taught those around him to live fully, fly high, and find joy in every day, many of which we were so honored to share with him.
Memorial Services to be announced at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Bullock III, Jason Burhyte, Matt Burhyte, James Carraway, Paul Castleberry, Perry Castleberry, Fred Cook, Ronnie Falt, Tim Kinsella, Bill Kirill, Clark Mulinix, Charlie Switzer, Bobby Switzer, John Switzer, Dave Taylor, Harris Turner, Fred Tygart, Dave Whalen and Bill Wyker.
Special thanks to all of our friends in Chantarene and the many people who have shared meals, thoughts, prayers and love.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Waterfront Mission in John’s memory, which is the best way to continue John’s service to the local homeless community. Waterfront Mission, PO Box 870, Pensacola FL 32591.

Many of my fondest memories in my life were shared with John hunting duck , turkey and deer hunting in Arkansaw and Alabama as well as both flying our friends to meet in Walkers Kay to spear fish. Those are the greatest and most fun retreats of my life! Thanks for being my personal pocket protector for 40 years. I will miss you my great friend! Untill we meet again.

John was a class act, that will be missed by his entire community. I started working at the Pensacola Country Club as a cart guy, bottom of the food chain. He treated me and everyone like they were a big deal. He never forgot my name and always asked about my family. He would tell me about his daily workout, this guy was a beast! I know he loved Ms.Nan and his entire family. I would joke with him, and he would give it right back. Just a great guy. Deepest sympathies.
