John Marino Obituary

John M Marino

03-30-1938 - 07/01/2023

Died Peacefully at home in Oak Park surrounded by his Family

Beloved Husband of Martha L. “Martie” Marino, nee Nation, for 58 years; Loving Father of John M Marino Jr. (Anna), Anthony M. Marino (Angela), Michael F. Marino (Christy), Nicholas M Marino (Lori) and the late Debra A. "Debbie" (Anthony) Caputo (2012); Cherished Grampa to John M Marino III (Angela), Filippo Marino, Michael Marino, Gianna Marino, Alyssa Caputo, Marissa Caputo, Frank Jones, Nina Marino, Anthony Marino, Gianna Marino, Sophia Marino, and Alaina Marino; Adoring Great Grandfather to Annabella Marino and John M Marino IV "Sonny";  Dearest Brother of Josephine (the late Charles P) Montalbano; Dearest Godfather, Uncle and Great Uncle to many.

He was never afraid of trying to fix what was broken and taught all of his sons not only how to use tools and be able to fix things, but gave us a perfect example of how to provide for his family and especially what it means to be a Man.

Generous with his time and money, he was always happy to give a couple dollars to people who he knew would never pay him back. If someone asked him to help them fix something he would usually try to do that too.

He worked for the Federal Government at the Hines Data Processing center until he retired at age 57.

While his day job provided for his family, his true passion was singing.

In High School he earned the nickname “Caruso” (as in Enrico Caruso the Italian Opera Singer) due to his vocal talent.

In the early 60’s he was the last member to join a local band called “The Caravans”.

From then until the 80’s, for over 25 years, he was their front man, showcasing his vocals as they played gigs from block parties to elegant weddings at the top of the Downtown Drake Hotel and every imaginable event in between. The band played at over 600 weddings during that time.

His final wedding performance was in October of 2019 at the wedding of his grandson (and his namesake) John M Marino III and his wife Angela.

Ironically, he is the last member of “The Caravans” to join them in Heaven.

We know there are many friends and family up there excited to hear you sing with the band again.

Surely you will nail it like always.

Uncle Johnny was a great man, respected, admired, and loved by everyone lucky enough to have known him. The love and relationship he shared with you, Aunt Martie, and with all of his children and grandchildren, are what everyone wants and strives to have. We are grateful for all of the moments we were lucky enough to share with him. His loss will be felt deeply, and for a long time. The memories and impacts he left behind will be felt even longer. Sending you much love

I am so sorry for your loss, my prayers and love are with all of you Mrs. Marino, Johnny, Tony, Michael and Nick and all your families and many children and grandchildren. I am sure that all of you brought him so much pride and joy in his life. I know that I will always keep happy memories in my heart from many years ago in Oak Park, 4th of July parties, all the fun we had in the basement as kids. It's making me pick "friend" but I always felt like family. God bless you.
