John Patrick O'Rourke

1950 - 2019

John Patrick O’Rourke, 68, of Kenvir, entered his Heavenly home Sunday, April 14, 2019, following a brief illness. Born June 9, 1950 in Kenvir, he had lived here most of his life. John believed in the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He served the Lord for 39 years and through his ministry helped lead many souls to Christ. John was a retired coal miner, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War and the former co-owner and operator of Cornerstone Florist. 
    John is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gininia Mary Hoskins O’Rourke; and his two best buddies, Frank Allen and Joey Robertson.
      Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sherry Gibbs O’Rourke, Kenvir; two children, John O’Rourke and wife, Amie, Whitesburg; and  Jessica Sizemore and husband, David, Kenvir; three brothers, Jack O’Rourke and wife, Gail, Kenvir; Mike O’Rourke and wife, Donna, Madisonville, KY; and Tom O’Rourke and wife, Ardith, Slaughters, KY; and two sisters, Mary Curry and Sharon O’Rourke, both of Kenvir. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Chase and Ashton Sizemore and Grace, Rayna and Josiah O’Rourke; a special sister-in-law, Brenda Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
     Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 until 9 pm at the Kenvir Church of God Mountain Assembly. 
     Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 2 pm at the Kenvir Church of God Mountain Assembly with the Reverend Jeffrey Hatfield and Reverend Ancil Vanover officiating.
     Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard.
