John Michael Swalve was born at 12:05 a.m., June 1, 2022 and passed peacefully as a baptized Catholic and beautiful child of God in the arms of his father, Daniel, at 1:04 a.m., June 1, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at All Saints Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials are preferred. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
John was diagnosed with skeletal dysplasia, a terminal diagnosis, at 20 weeks old. He was carried by his mother, Ashley, for 16 more weeks before being born early. They wanted to give him the best chance they could at life after his diagnosis. John blessed his parents with nearly a whole hour of time with him, as they had only expected a few breaths.
He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Ashley; three sisters: Chloe, Noel, and Hannah; maternal grandmother, Karen Langel; paternal grandparents, Gary and Naomi Swalve; maternal great grandmothers: Joyce Langel and Donna Frerichs; aunts and uncles: Alex Swalve, Heath (Heather) Langel, Jesse (Jackie) Langel, Daniel (Haley) Langel, Brooke (Conor) Bertling, and Jordan (Abby) Langel; 15 cousins; many great aunts, great uncles, and other extended relatives.
John is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Langel; uncle, Beau Langel; and great grandparents: Marvin Langel, Jerry Frerichs, Elsworth ‘Doc’ and Betty Swalve, and Yushin and Haruko (Miyazato) Gima.
