Our loving Jonquil “Jonie” McConnell of Hockley, TX passed away on January 21, 2026 at the age of 73. In her passing, we celebrate and honor her deeply caring spirit for all creatures, human and otherwise, particularly dogs and grandchildren, and her genuine warmth and selflessness.
Jonie was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and grew up in a beautiful farmhouse with a big family atmosphere surrounding her. She inherited her father’s sense of craftsmanship and hearty home DIY project goals and her mother’s culinary skills, particularly visible by her joy of baking at holiday time where she replicated her own mom’s famous buns.
She married Brian Keith McConnell at age 18 and they moved to San Antonio Texas just before their first child was born. Following two children, a divorce and years of living in two Texas towns of Converse and La Vernia, she moved to the Houston area and eventually made Hockley her final home. Jonie’s work ethic was admired by many and after a few college credits, she committed to continuing her service work, from laundry service in Pennsylvania to multiple delicatessen leadership roles, retiring from Albertsons grocery and finishing her employment out at the well-known Buc-ee’s stores.
She is preceded in death by her considerably kind and generous parents, Joseph and Evelyn Moore and her sisters Gloria and Beverly Moore. Beverly spent the last years of her life as sister roommates with Jonie where their support for one another and Beverly’s daughter Marla allowed them to live, laugh and love as only the closest of family can.
Jonie is survived by her brother Larry Moore and wife Jane; daughter Rhonda McConnell Abbott and husband John “Blake”; son Bradley Keith McConnell; grandchildren Jarob Maxwell Abbott, Leithan Connell Abbott, and Kyla Jaelyn McConnell; as well as many other relatives and friends. Jonie enjoyed spending time building puzzles, crafting, conducting house projects, watching her sci-fi programs, being with Beverly, Marla and her dogs and visiting with neighbors. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, the favorite of those creatures she held so dear.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Jonie’s name to one of the following:
