It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished patriarch, Jose (Joe) Marcelino Garcia Sr., who passed on May 6, 2025 at the age of 86.
A true Lompoc native, Joe was born on June 3, 1938 to Jesus and Juana Garcia. The eleventh of twelve children, he always valued the importance of family and took pride in the accomplishments of everyone, no matter how small they might have seemed. You could always count on him to share stories of the times he shared with his brothers and sisters, which were some of his most cherished memories.
As a child, Joe attended local schools and was a proud Lompoc High graduate. He could regularly be found in the crowd supporting Lompoc High athletics, especially his beloved Braves soccer teams. Always one to stress the importance of education, Joe received an Associate's Degree from Allan Hancock College. During his younger years, he served in the US Air Force, something he was incredibly proud of. He later worked on Vandenberg Air Force Base in transportation, until he eventually retired. Joe was not one to idly sit back and do nothing, though; upon retiring from his civil service position, he worked part-time for Lompoc Unified School District as a custodian.
Joe was a devoted father, raising four children in Lompoc - Richard, Patricia, Suzann, and Jose Jr. (Pepper). He was his children's biggest supporter, always encouraging them to work hard and strive to be the best people they could be. As his children began having children of their own, Joe made sure his grandchildren and great grandchildren always received the same type of affirmations and support. From tandem bike rides to Wednesday lunch dates, Joe's love for his family was palpable.
One of his proudest accomplishments was coaching youth soccer, a role he first took on when his youngest was five. He would go on to coach all of his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who played the sport. Even when he didn't have a family member playing, his love of the game kept him coaching. Joe avidly coached youth soccer in Lompoc in a career that spanned over 40 years. He had immense pride in watching his athletes not only grow to love the sport, but take the lessons they learned from soccer and apply them to life.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Mary, Leon, Barney, Gil, Jess, Nellie, Rose, and Mike. He is survived by his siblings Helen, Jennie, and Frank; children Richard, Patricia (Anthony), Suzann (Robert), and Pepper; grandchildren Kristen (Cordero), Thomas, Samantha (Ryan), Danielle, Jericha, Savannah, Noah (Annie), and Julia; great grandchildren Kaden, Romeo, Benji, Sophia, Dominic, and Tommy; and countless nieces and nephews.
Following a private burial, on May 28, 2025 we invite you to join us at noon at the Veterans' Memorial Building in Lompoc for a celebration of his amazing life.

Uncle: You have been part of my life for so many years. Your death is not the end because your love lives in my heart forever. You supported me in good times and hard times. You came to my baseball games, traveled to my gigs, and you represented your generation in my wedding. We conversed about life, laughed a lot and found a common interest for foreign film. You helped me become a better man. All my love to my aunts, uncle and my cousins as we grieve our loss. Rest in PEACE, my loving Uncle.

Uncle Joe words can not explain the void that I am sure your immediate family is feeling. It is safe to say, that all of the Garcia's are feeling the same way. In good times and in bad you were our familys biggest cheerleader. Personally you would always make my moms and Alyssa's day when you would visit. My mom is the quiet type, but I know she misses her brother terribly. If I had one wish---I HOPE HEAVEN IS TREATING YOU WELL. ❤

"The Garcia Family", my sincere condolences to you all during this difficult time. Your dad will be missed and was a great Uncle. I appreciated him stepping in to be my Godfather for my "confirmation" through church. I know my dad and him have more great stories and laughs to continue as they meet in heaven along with all the many friends and family. Sorry I will not be able to attend his services due to a new path and career. My prayers and BLESSINGS to you all.

I will always remember being a part of the first ever Lompoc woman’s adult soccer team and Mr Garcia was our coach. I was the youngest member of this team and remember so many fun travel day's. I moved to Florida but stayed in touch with my best buddy Suzanne and her amazing hubby Robert, so i always knew how Mr Garcia was doing. One of the best decisions i ever made was traveling back to Lompoc with my husband for his surprise 85th birthday party. He will be missed and knowing the family and their love for life and love for others is a true testament to his love and support towards his family.

Mr. Garcia, you were definitely one of the good ones. I always anxiously awaited your visit to City Hall every June asking for a couple more Flower Festival parking permits. We’d end up chatting away without a care in the world. I will forever appreciate how you always asked “How’s Jimmy doing?” and you were sincere and truly wanted to know. We were very sad to hear of your passing. We were not just neighbors all these years but friends too. Our heartfelt prayers are with your family and all your loved ones. May you rest easy.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Uncle Pepper. He was always upbeat and positive in life. I'll cherish when he visited us in England and it coinincided with my graduation. It was nice to have family in the stands to cheer me on that day.
My mom will miss their chat sessions for which I am sad about. I'll miss him too.
